I'd have voted for some closure, not all. Leave something to the imagination but don't just give us a carnival ride, give us more pieces to the mystery puzzles as well.

A Phantasm TV series would be great. I'd be tuned into my TV for that. Perhaps it would help restore my faith in modern television as well. I can't help but agree with you - what phan wouldn't want to see the story just unwind like a spiral galaxy becoming more and more complex? Except reality intrudes and a Little Voice tells me, you want to see it get totally ruined, make it into a TV enterprise. Too many cooks with their ladles in the broth. Too many corporate sponsors to kiss the hineys of. Bleah. If it went televised it should stay "underground" as in obscure cable or something with less limits, control, commercialisation putting its ugly hooks into things.

i agree with dustin, but for arguements sakes, keep the Phantasm tv show at like 9:30pm at night, cause of kids. They see that , and we will have kids making 4 barreled shotguns, shaving their heads to look like reggie!!!

If Phantasm went as a TV show I would rather see it broadcast on HBO so the adult humor, action/violence and gore effects won't fall to the network censors. Another idea could be a mini-series serial. Who knows what great stuff Don could come up with for us. I agree with Dustin that Supernatural is more homage than ripoff of Phantasm. I'm just glad someone got inspiration from Phantasm for a TV show. The premise is very fertile ground. Right now Supernatural is the only good thing going on at CW.

I think Don could do a great job with an HBO mini series or something along those lines.

I don't think a series would be a good idea. It would just cause more loopholes and unanswered questions, and there are enough unanswered questions with the movies as it is.

Yeah but it would answer some of those questions and raise even more questions.
Thats what I love about this series. You get one set of questions answered and a whole new set pops up.
It's never over!

I like the idea of a series but the nagging question for me would be the availability of the original cast for that kind of production. I could never imagine a re-casting of the Phantasm regulars and I wonder if Don would continue with the franchise without the original cast. Don seems very loyal and really enjoys working with the them and that is something I really respect about him.

When I say series, I think of a new cast with a new story. I'm not saying the old cast couldn't appear.... but I think the potential of Phantasm as a major franchise is yet to be explored and won't be if we limit ourselves to four aging performers who've done this for 30 years. Their story is nearly complete.
I think some fresh faces need to start a new chapter.

Could easily get 4 to 5 "far out" seasons. Phantasm is anything goes...time travel, dream within a dream, dwarves, civil war time, Jeb Morningside,etc,etc,etc....

Yeah, and it could be about the survivors some of the towns The Tall Man has destroyed.
As for closure I hit yes, but I mean I want some things left open so we have more things to debate and discuss but not enough for me to think we need a Phantasm six. For some reason I keep seeing it end in the past with Jebediah working on his experiments. Like, he's showing his wife his portal idea or maybe even the moment before he takes that fateful trip into the portal.

I wasn't thinking outside the bun about a new cast. As long as Don is at the helm everything would be good. I like the idea about having survivors of the towns being the new main characters. Using an adult Tim or the Fortune Tellers grand daughter would also be an avenue to explore.

Hi,I'm new and I hope no one minds me responding to a semi-old thread. I agree with Dustin,so long as if there was a series, they were careful with casting and didn't just go for the "teeny bopper" stars to boost ratings (like Lohan or something, yuck, can you even imagine the taint that would have on Phantasm?)
I have been fascinated with this movie since I was a teen. The first one I saw was Two.At the time I lived right next to a cemetery and this guy down the street drove Limos/hearses as his business.Occasionally I'd be driving and see a hearse right behind me and for a moment think it was the tall man! These movies just get more interesting with each one and I just keep wanting more!

Listening to the podcasts today gave me such a great idea about the nature of this series...which was also a great explanation of the "point" of the films themselves...;
they could very well be dreams. Just dreams conjured up in the mind of Mike Pearson. I think that's such a fascinating theory...

hmmm, I don't know about leaving too many questions unanswered. I really love the nostalgic tone of P4 - it's my favourite Phantasm from a filmmaking point of view.
BUT the P4 story did confuse the hell out of me, although that was probably it's purpose! For part 5, I would love to see as many questions as possible answered without sacrificing the atmoSPHERE. Hey I want to sleep easy at night and part 4 has made me lose so much sleep not knowing the answers! I guess a happy medium would make me happy. But however Part 5 turns out I will be just so happy to see it!

Oh I agree I wanna know the answers that P4 raised but at the same time I feel those answerrs should raise more questions.
That to me is what the Phantasm series is all about never having one clear cut answer to anything and it's never over.

I voted simply "yes" I wouldn't want total closure...I think that would leave most of us with that "Ummm" feeling... Answers? Yeah, I want some answers...but not everything...To me Phantasm is just that never ending infinite loop that could go many different directions, leave something to the imagination. As for a series? I almost fainted. I can't say right now how I would feel about something like that...

What I think i want is a movie that gives the answers, but isn't easy to decipher. A bizarre but final ending.
