I have copies of Phantasm I-Morningside, Phantasm II-Perigord, and Phantasm IV-Oblivion, on VHS tape. Does anyone know if Phantasm III exist in VHS format and can be purchased in VHS? I think this film was originally released in DVD format only? I have been unable to find it in VHS format and would like a complete set of all 4 Phantasms in VHS format.

I know for a fact that it's out on tape in North America since I owned it at one time. And used to rent it a lot as a kid.

Yeah it exists. My best friend owned it and let some kid borrow it and it melted in his hot car.

Yeah, a terrible fate indeed! I remember I got mad, even though it wasn't my VHS!

It exists. Pretty good quality too. 2nd from right (from the picture's standpoint, looking toward you) . If anyone needs one, I'm selling those toasters.

Techincally, the VHS is a Universal release (possibly the only Universal title to be owned by Anchor Bay as of 2007), it's open-matte (as are the other Phantasms), and is the R-Rated version which featured the alternate Phantasm: Lord Of The Dead title. I do wish I can own a copy of the VHS release.

Yeah, I have Phantasm 3 on VHS too...in VERY good shape. I ordered it off of phantasm.com back in the day because everyone else wanted over $100 for the d**n thing...even years after it came out! Had no idea it was rare though. I know exactly where it's sitting in my closet...under the weight of other oldie but goody VHS tapes. Maybe I should dig it out and wrap it in saran wrap?

Yeah, I actually like the open-matte VHS framing of P3 better than the widescreen version. I don't know why, I guess I prefer the shot composition that way.

I actually own a regular VHS copy and what's called a videostore dealer screener copy with the trailer and an ad for the P3 wall clock if you order so many units. It's wild.

I had it before, i believe it was only released to rental places so that is why it was so expensive.

oh man i wish i could have snagged the copies i had found. this old friend of mine, his dad ran an old mom and pop type video store and he had a large selection of horror movies, vhs. i used to lurk in the section a lot. anyway the store eventually closed, thanks to the bigger stores, like blockbuster and hollywood video moving into town.
my friend's dad, for some reason, put all the videos from the store, horror and everything else, into a storage unit. he rented this unit for many years until he finally decided to take everything out and sell it. i remember helping him move boxes and boxes of vhs tapes from the unit to his house. they guy was going to have a sale. there were so many movies. but when i was helping put up the tapes onto shelves he set up in his garage, i got excited to see not only the phantasm movies but the nightmare films, friday the 13ths and a whole bunch of the classics. i remember telling my friend to hold a lot of these for me. but his dad ruined everything. he got mad cuz he was trying to hold them for me. don't know why i was going to buy them. he was selling them for 5 bucks each. i was planning on getting P1-3, which were the only ones of the series he had at the time. but nope he ruined it. he might have though i was not going to pay for them. but i was. by the time i got to their house, they were all gone. all the good ones. i remember being so bummed out. but that's ok. i know own them all on dvd....and hopefully on blu ray in the future. although for some reason i don't count P2 ever making it onto blu ray.

I remember that the Hollywood video store I would rent from used to carry all the Phantasm movies but I found out that almost all their horror movie vhs tapes were bootlegs. they look authentic and you couldn't tell the difference until you viewed them. some looked as clear as a new vhs could get while others, even though they were straight out of the box, looked like they had been re-recorded over and over. Examples of some of these bootlegs were TX Chainsaw Massacre 2. For some reason, the deleted scenes were placed back into the movie and it made no sense. TX Chain Saw Massacre 1 had a mistake in it towards the end where Sally jumps out the window. Everything suddenly slows down and freezes in place for about 5 seconds and then resumes. The Phantasm movies all seemed to look like they had been watched hundreds of times even though they were fresh out the box. Still I miss seeing those old vhs covers. I remember when many of the stores went out of business and started to sell eveything. it was always the horror movies that sold out first.
