My new DVD player that I bought the other day is hackable so I made it region-free not too long ago. Of course, the first disc I pop in is Phantasm II. Chances of me buying the region 1 release are even slimmer now, especially with my new DVD player & the fact that I don't want to drop close to $15 on it since it doesn't really give us anything new. For now, I can live with the gap on my shelf between Phantasm & Phantasm III. Too bad as the picture quality is perfect and even though a bare bones release 15 bucks isn't that high for a dvd.

It's too high for me since I'm a huge bargain DVD hunter. And the lack of special features & the DVD still being around $15 is a turn off for me. Now if it was out of print or rare, I'd probably drop $15 on it.
The Anchor Bay DVD is still enough for me. I think the picture quality is fine & the features are pretty decent, especially the commentary.

I actually think $15 for a DVD is starting to become kind of steep, considering I've gotten several new Blu-Rays off of Amazon for around that price. I snagged District 9 on Blu-Ray for $14.

Speaking of Blu-Ray, what's the status on Phantasm!?

That too. I'll admit that I will drop $15 for a new DVD copy of something from Code Red or one of the more obscure companies out there. This movie is from Universal though. Some of their titles that are better movies than Phantasm II(I do love Phantasm II quite a bit though) are cheaper. And have actual special features. Hell, you can grab the Anchor Bay discs of Phantasm, Phantasm III, & oblIVion for cheaper than $15. Perhaps even a used copy of the OOP MGM disc of Phantasm. I guess I'm just a tightwad....and content with Anchor Bay's region 2 release. *shrugs*

yes, you all can throw rocks..i just finally got around to taking the wrap off Phantasm II dvd. Was waiting for a special occasion..well, my sister bought a 50 inch tv and bought a blu ray player for christmas....and not simply was the transfer beautiful..but the player and the TV made it good and sharp...things i have never noticed before.
On a personal note, i am sorry i have been MIA for a while...work caught up with me and then i bought a new PC and still am working on things back to rights.

i bought this dvd on the day it came out. i knew it was a bare bones dvd and didn't care that it was going for the price it was back then. mainly cuz i knew that universal has no plans to release this movie again. it was a one time dvd release. you can still find a copy of it here and there but once it's gone off the store shelves, that's it. much like coscerelli's other movie, "kenny and comp". that movie was hard to find for me, luckily i bought one on amazon. it's already out of print.
i remember hearing that anchor bay, or was it another company, was trying to convince universal to allow them to do a proper dvd for P2 some time back. but universal won't allow it. they apparantly don't wanna share the profits. someone even said that universal doesn't see it as a movie that will bank them money. plus the only reason it was finally released was cuz the fans demanded it by putting pressure on them to release it. they had never planned on releasing it by what i read. i guess the mountains of letters must have grown high. if this is true then the fans should have also demanded a lot of extra features, which they seemed to forget to mention to universal. so as a big middle finger to the fans, universal released the movie, with no features, knowing they were going to make money anyway. take the movie but you get nothing else.
well i grew tired of seeing the empty spot between P1 and P3 so i had to buy it. for a long time i had a bootleg version of P2 inbetween them.
my brother saw them on the shelve and question why i even had doubles of some of the movies. which i don't. i just happened to have both P1 versions, mgm, and AB releases. P2 from universal, P3, which was a universal made movie but released by some other company i can't remember, and P4 both the AB and mgm copies. gotta have em all.
