I've been thinking about the cover lately. I guess my question is that it appears Universal isn't really putting alot of money into this as it is bare bones and no one is sure if it's mono or not.
So as they are going the cheap route what's the point in making new artwork wouldn't that cost more than using the existing original art?
I'm just not understanding the logic there.

It may come to theory that even though Universal owns the rights, Starway International and Don own props and any artwork to Phantasm II. Universal probably didn't want to spend any extra money for the poster artwork to use it for the cover. But I don't see what's wronmg with the artwork. I like it. And even if the sound is not in 5.1, I'm still buying it. But I don't understand if Universal uses the same transfer from the Japanese Box Set (it's quite obvious since IV's new AB transfer was from the Japan Box Set too. The new transfers for II and IV are awesome.) why can't they also use the 5.1 and DTS tracks from the Japan box set too?

My understanding, limited as it may be, is that Universal Studios owns the Phantasm II theatrical poster artwork. This is why for Anchor Bay's R2 release of Phantasm II, they had to use the P1 artwork of the screaming woman who can't cover her eyes. This has often been used as P2 artwork but originated back in early 1979 for foreign releases. Don does indeed still own nearly all of the props and sets from all of the Phantasm films in storage units across the state. Bigphan, that's a large assumption that Universal will be using the Japanese transfer of Phantasm II. Simply because AB's transfer was identical (which I'm not convinced of at all. Matter of fact, I kind of doubt it - but can't rule it out. Do you have screenshots? Would be interesting!) to the Japanese transfer of IV, doesn't mean that Universal will be going to the same source. Universal has been showing Phantasm II in high-definiton for quite some time on it's hi-def channels, as I understand it, and have reportedly remastered their own print. No verification on the remastering, however, as I haven't taped the film.

But I don't see what's wronmg with the artwork. It's a really ugly, badly Photoshopped cover that looks like it took about five minutes(at most) to whip up. It's a half-assed release on Universal's part.

I'd rather have a butt-ugly cover than no DVD at all.

According to this and the Amazon link The Never Dead posted, this version has both Mikes in it! You can't beat that. Huh? Not sure I understand what you mean?

Huh? Not sure I understand what you mean? I don't know what you mean! Under product details where it lists the actors, it lists both Michael Baldwin and James LeGros. A Tale of Two Mikes.

Well.... Every version of P2 had both Mikes in it... to a certain extent.

Correct, The Never Dead. Well.... Every version of P2 had both Mikes in it... to a certain extent. True, but in this case, A.M.B's name is listed first in these descriptions for this release, like he actually starred in it instead of showing a few minutes of when he was a 13 year old Mike Pearson in the P1 flashbacks at the beginning, which is where the hilarity comes in.

Heh, yeah, now that's the kind of crap I mean--Even a famous critic messed up. Things like that error are all the more reason why I've never listened to anything a critic has to say. Real hilarious stuff though, huh? What with all their attention to detail or lack thereof.

I am so excited...(think i might have mentioned it)....well, what makes me even more excited...is...we got a new preist at our church, and the new priest brought with him a home theatre, complete with wall projector, and we have a big ol blank white wall at the youth center....and this perticular Good Father happens to be a movie buff. I think that will be the closest i will ever get to P2 on the 'big screen'.
