I've noticed the scene where Mike turns to face the Tall Man, but never the pit scene. Nice catch. Just goes to show how clever filmmakers have to be sometimes to get scenes to work properly.

I have memories of Don showing Kristen & I in his old office outside a now razed Hollywood hotel, the scene in which Mike is up in the chandelier in the mausoleum and the dwarves are jumping up trying to grab him. He then either falls or jumps off and it then goes to the fire extinguisher scene. I could be wrong, but I think that's how it played out. And I think you see Jody helping lift Mike up into the chandelier that starts the scene off.

Quite an amazing find. I believe there is still a ton of deleted footage around. Don said that they cut a lot of backstory from the film for time and quality reasons. It would be great if they put all the deleted footage back in and released it as maybe a 2dvd version of Phantasm I. Then it may closer resemble the book written from the original script by Don's mom.

Now you can see video of the extended hanging scene, if you like. There's no audio to it and it's only a few seconds long, but hey - it's something! (Couldn't put this one on YouTube or else it'd be taken down for sure) phantasmarchives.net/hanging.mov

Love this, Dustin! The first time I ever saw this footage in Don's office with Guy along, I was in shock. Those few moments of the Tall Man stealthily, fearlessly climbing the tree like a predatory cat were nightmarish! He absolutely doesn't seem human in those moments.

Is there anyway you can upload these deleted scenes on Youtube? Oh no, no, no, no, no. I'd be killed all kinds of dead by the Tall Man's spheres if I did that. There's still a plentiful treasure trove of unseen deleted material from Phantasm, that much I promise you. And it was all filmed. Everyone had scenes cut. Mike, Jody, Reggie, the Tall Man, the Aunt, the Fortuneteller, Sally and Suzy, Myrtle the Maid, the Lady in Lavender, the dwarves, the Dunes Cantina bartender and Don's mother. Well, almost everyone. Among the few who didn't have deleted scenes were Tommy and the Caretaker - everything they shot made it into the film. This question goes out to Dustin.
If your able to, would it be possible for you to list some (if all)of the deleted scenes of each character mentioned that was cut from the film?
I would do that, but I'm long separated from the notes I once kept that related to P1's deleted scenes. If you have the novelization of the first film, you pretty much have most of the deleted scenes there.

I Think there is a market for an electronic version of the Phantasm Novels by Kate Coscarelli.
Well, that puts me in a tough dilemma. I would love to see/read those deleted scenes, and I have the novel. However, I am too scared to open it and ruin the binding.
I probably would still have that problem considering I do not own a device to read electronically. Considering my young age, I'm still kind of old-school. By the way, the html on these quote boxes is pretty bombed. I think I fixed it.

Here are several images from a P1 deleted scene I came across not too long ago. You won't find this scene on any of the Phantasm DVDs or in Phantasm: Oblivion. It features Mike tossing around a football with a blonde-haired boy, the same one whom he and Jody passed while in the 'Cuda. If you've seen Phantasm: Oblivion, you'll know that the Tall Man eventually runs over this boy's dog. Holy moly!
