Since I'm definitely about two months behind on delivering new video from Guy Thorpe's Phantasm III/IV archives, here are a handful of pics to satiate anyone's appetite for behind-the-scenes shenanigans. These images are from the re-shooting of P2's ending for Phantasm III. I must say, it's very cool to see Michael in LeGros' wardrobe, sort of like right a wrong, y'know? Pics courtesy Guy '1hearseman' Thorpe.

This is really heavy stuff! These photos remind me of why P3 is one of the more unusual inclusions in the series. I've always appreciated how Don opens each Phantasm sequel with a recap of the previous film and then extends the prologue with essentially new footage furthering the scene right before the title sequence. I never noticed until becoming a film student and learning about editing techniques and alternate takes but the opening of P3 has the most unique of all in my opinion.
We start with a recap spanning the end of P1 and P2. Then we start seeing unused P2 footage of the Tall Man reemerging from the dimension fork, very crafty to use that footage here rather than after the gang escapes the mortuary in P2 itself. Title sequence officially starts the movie then its on to more P2 footage, alternate takes to be precise, of the hearse attack. All the shots of Liz with Mike were alternate takes with slight differences. Notice how in the shot right before Reg spooks Liz at the window, when she is yelling for him you don't hear Mike doing the same. Very helpful for keeping LeGros out of the film and paving the way for switching Baldwin back.
I only wish we could have seen more new footage of Mike in P2 mode before becoming unconscious. Right when Reg finds him he's out, much like how he will be for a large portion of the film. I'm sure the notion of how Reg's 4-barrel magically came back has been discussed but has anyone ever noticed how Mike is now wearing an ammo belt holding shotgun shells when in P2 he never used one or had that on when they escaped. Coscarelli, he's a tricky storyteller!
