...I was surfing on Horrordvds.com and on thier message boards, I saw something that I could not believe; "Phantasm II announced by Universal!!!!": www.horrordvds.com/community/threads/phantasm-ii-announced-by-universal.39090/When I read that, I was over joyed (as I'm sure most of you were). The remaining film in the series was finally going to be released on DVD at last! I post the news here and a few other message boards. And when I heard months earlier in 2009 that Universal was releasing Howard The Duck on DVD, I knew it was a matter of time for Universal to release Phantasm II on DVD. A bare-bones release, yes but it had the trailer and that was better than nothing at all and the new transfer withstanded the UK's release. Let us remember this day June 9th: the day our lives were fulfilled and our collections were complete. And we should thank Anchor Bay and Universal for that. To quote the letter Dustin wrote to Universal on the Phantasm Archives website: "Dear Universal, Thank you for finally releasing Phantasm II on DVD. It was long overdue but appreciated. Sincerly, Mostly everyone." Dustin, I would love it if you posted a wall paper of what you put on the Phantasm Archives when we heard the annoucement. Much appreciated. June 9th, 2009: A day we phans we'll never forget.

By request, here's the image that greeted visitors to the Archives following the DVD announcement. I'm afraid the Phantasm II alumni who gave it to me (they're not a member of this forum) wanted it exclusively released in low-resolution to the internet as they plan to debut it's larger resolution version sometime down the road (release of an official website, perhaps). It *is* a terrific image, however. Note that they're all sitting on the Tall Man's hearse. Notables among the crowd include Angus, Reggie, Paula, James, Don, producer Roberto Quezada (by Angus), effects maestro Mark Shostrom (infront of Don) and cinematographer Daryn Okada (beside Reggie). If Kristen (postmortem) were here, she could name a heck of a lot more people. And if you're wondering why SHE isn't in the picture, she tells me that she was actually working in the production office when they snapped this photo. Bunch of loafers!

Thanks Dustin for posting this pic. I remember seeing this and wondered why it was taken down so quickly. The first time I saw it I didn't notice they were all sitting on the hearse.

If Kristen (postmortem) were here, she could name a heck of a lot more people. And if you're wondering why SHE isn't in the picture, she tells me that she was actually working in the production office when they snapped this photo. Bunch of loafers! My only copy of that photo is in a scrapbook back home with my mom. Haven't seen it in about two decades, so seeing this sure brought back some powerful memories! This photo was taken on Coscarelli's birthday. Lots of friends there--lots of warm memories. A few friends (not just me) are missing from that photo too whom I think deserve mention: Betsy Fitzmaurice: My fellow associate with publicity, and assistant to the executive producer. Probably helping the senior Coscarelli's with the upcoming American Film Market for late February. A really funny, smart lady. Lynette Garris: Assistant to Producer (Roberto Quezada). Probably holding down the fort there at the warehouse. John Stolfi: Production Coordinator. He was definitely holding down phones in the warehouse production office. This photo was taken at the back of the Marilla warehouse. I heard that Stolfi passed away in the early 90's, alas. Steve Patino: Sphere FX. He was really proud of his sphere work in P2 (and some of it IS remarkable). He based his work on Willard Green's sphere from P1 (and actually got to handle this remarkable item). Steve, alas, passed away in the early 90's. Me: Holding down the fort at the Hollywood production office and also busy getting publicity items ready for the AFM market. The Hollywood office was in a cool hotel, and hearses from Graveline Tours used it as part of their daily tour... It was the place where P2 started and ended, long after the warehouse was evacuated, and was also the base of operations for "Survival Quest" and P3. The hotel was torn down years ago and now remains as a vacant lot on Hollywood Blvd.
