Greetings Phans! I am new to the "Phantasm Community", and thought I would share my thoughts on one of my beloved film series' of all time...in particular, 'Phantasm II'. I was wondering if there was any interest (other than myself) in seeing a complete, digitally remastered version of Fred Myrow's classic score to 'Phantasm II'. Aside from the various releases of the soundtrack to the original film, there are no other official releases for the remaining films in the series. Granted, there are promotional bootlegs for both 'Phantasm II' and 'Phantasm: Oblivion' floating around the internet, but I think the true "phans" deserve to have some sort of official release(s) of these classic scores. There's been a lot of great soundtrack reissues on CD that have come out over the past year alone, and one could easily look up the reputable soundtrack labels that have been responsible for these wonderful releases...La-La-Land Records, Intrada, and Varese Sarabande, just to name a few. What do you guys think?

Welcome to the board, ningue. Thank you for the P2 nod--brought a smile to my face. Wholeheartedly, I agree with your desire for a soundtrack to P2. In fact, I would love to hear P3 and P4 too (the "Last Perfect Day" music is so poignant). For me, 50% of the viewing pleasure of "Phantasm" was its music and I completely wore out my Varese Sarabande record playing it over and over again. A great moment for me was meeting Fred Myrow in the ADR dubbing/scoring sessions at Disney for P2, though there was virtually no time to talk. He was working on the bombastic music for the credits and I felt a great sense of pride watching. His music deserves to be shared.

I say contact La-La Land Record for the idea (as well for I, III, and IV). They released great soundtracks to Spaceballs, Mars Attacks!, Night Of The Creeps, and Child's Play.

I have the CD that contains P-I & part of P-II. I was ecstatic when I found it, mortified at the price. It contained something like 24 tracks, the last 2 or so from P-II. Very robust!

I think it is a rights issue like how long the dvd took to come out as it is a shame as P2 as so much more music to it it deserves a official release.
I am just glad i found it by chance then shared it so others could hear it.

Hey Phans! Thanks for the warm welcome here and the kudos on my 'P2' post! To postmortem, I must say you were very lucky to meet Fred Myrow in person, especially during the 'P2' scoring sessions! Honestly, I feel his music brought alot to the film series, and without it, it wouldn't be the same. I've been to a bunch of horror conventions on the East coast over the past ten years, and I've met "the (ice) cream of the crop" of the 'Phantasm' cast in my travels, including the creator himself, Don Coscarelli! I would have loved to meet Fred Myrow, although his untimely passing was quite unfortunate for all of his fans. A long time ago, the folks over at Phantasm.com were planning on releasing soundtracks to both 'P2' and 'P3', but alas, that never came to fruition. Does anybody know about this, or why it never happened? I've read interviews with Don Coscarelli in the past, and I've heard that he's got tons of stuff from 'P2' in the closet...I wonder if he's sitting on the master recording sessions, too? I am going to contact La-La-Land Records and suggest the 'Phantasm' film scores be added to their slate. In fact, I think we're all in agreement that not only the second film score be released, but perhaps, a box set of all four films, including previously unreleased tracks that may (or may not) exist. Hopefully, somebody gets the ball rolling off the ground and into the air, sort to speak! I'll keep you all in the loop! -- Von Ningue

I myself, like Postmortem know Don very well and have tried to suggest on numerous occasions that he release ALL the music to all four films, but alas have yet to see anything come out. Perhaps someone can get the BALL rolling so to speak! I'd love to see a boxed set as well!

Thanks Guy! This past year, we've seen a LOT of soundtrack reissues on CD, including ones that were mostly previously unreleased scores from the '80's ('Back To The Future', 'Night Of The Creeps', etc.). In fact, Alan Silvestri's 'Predator' score came out a week ago (for a second time, no less) through Intrada Records and has already sold out of it's 3000 run! Hopefully, somebody out there loves the beautifully haunting melodies of the 'Phantasm' film series enough to realize that it should be released commercially.
V.N.

P 2 alone has like 31 tracks overall so the re recorded suite that was on one edition of the P1/2 soundtrack was only a mere taste.
