Let me start by saying I am not a big fan of video games. In fact I never play them, however, I was thinking that perhaps instead of a 5th Phantasm film a video game would work well. I feel that a 5th film will most likely never happen and it gets less likely with the passing of each year. I also think that a remake is inevitable but we all know that it will probably be a huge disappointment. That is why I propose that Don Coscarelli and the cast of the films develop a video game that could take the player through all the Phantasms including scenarios and worlds we have previously never experienced including the unfilmed script for Phantasm IV. I know this may seem like a weak substitute for a sequel but given the circumstances it may be the best thing the phans will ever receive. I do think that the movies would translate perfectly to a video game.

Here, here!! Good idea (i would rather see a 5th Philm, but...) i think the Philms would be great linked with a video game!! On another note, does anyone out there know when Regg's book will hit the shelves? Also, i saw a post a few weeks ago and someone had said they had seen Phantasm patches for jackets. Does anyone know where i can find these patches? I have searched the net and they seem to be like the tall man, not really there, lol! (Hmmm, that seems to be a recurring the me around these parts, like a dream, maybe even a Phantasm???

Noble idea MASON, it would require a small, dedicated team to pull it off. An independent development company that is willing to shoulder the costs. The reason for that is publishers (Electronic Arts; Atari; Activision, etc) would want to be assured they would recoup their money should the fund such a deal. Phantasm has quite the cult following, but I don't believe it has the mass following of FREDDIE. I'm not a bean counter, I know this because I used to be Project Manager that focused on software development. While my job was to create the best product I could with the time, money and tools I had, the exec's cared about the bottom dollar, and they were the final say on what we could or could not do (Every idea/thought/concept was met with "How much will it cost?"). I looked up the two franchises on the internet and according to the WIKI (yea...as trustworthy as that is I guess) you will see that the first NIGHTMARE movie returned a NET more than the first two PHANTASM movies did in GROSS.
If you can get a backer and a team, and Coscerelli's blessing, you have a shot at it, that's for sure!! Distribution is another thing and there are many ways to do that~!
I'm not a Nay-sayer~! I would *LOVE* to see something come out of these movies...just lending some experience!

I guess if we're not getting a 5th film (unless we hear otherwise), then a video game is the only way at this point. I'm in for it!

Hi everyone, I am the Author of the Doom 3 Phantasm Mod and I am currently rebuilding and remaking everything over in Unreal Development and beyond. This will be a stand alone application that you could almost count as a new phantasm game. I am trying to recruit help with the UDK version to have a more dedicated homage that all will appreciate and enjoy. so far I am doing everything myself again. What was unfortunate with the D3 version is was that it was very short and made very quickly. here I am now taking a more elaborate approach with more involvement and design. I like what was posted in this thread of the idea with unseen elements and more to make the story continue. This is what I've been working on for quite a while building a multitude of game assets to impliment in an interactive experience. as a Phan this is just a demonstration of my artistic ability as an artist and enthuastast in a digital expression of apprecation. you can see some of the progress I've made in the udk engine with Project: PHANTASM, Thanks everyone! wish me well as this will be quite a project, one that I'll enjoy re-making better than before. any and all help ,comments and suggestions are welcomed. Thanks everyone! JV www.moddb.com/games/project-phantasm

The previews look amazing. Really enjoyed playing the Doom3 mod had a blast with that one. The quad barrell on the UDK looks fantastic. What I did notice from the Doom3 mod, was that when you saw yourself, it was the soldier from Doom3, so it would be amazing if you there was a Reggie or Mike avatar you could play as. Maybe some puzzle/maze elements to it too. I suggest having a look around the boards too, there may be some ideas lurking in the shadows The UDK software is great now that it's effectively been open sourced. I'm a big fan of the Unreal series and could never stop playing the hell out of them. Good luck with your project and please keep posting, you never know where inspiration can come from. Welcome!!!!!

That's brilliant, I can see Reggie with a chainsaw cutting his way through lurkers all the way through it

I love the pic of the garden maze. Reminds me of my other favorite movie "The Shining".

Sometimes a vid game can be more immersive than a movie because of its interactivity. It also conveys a sense of being there, sorta like a simulator. well 10 hours later I managed to build a maze with 621 brushes. Its just the maze only so far but its a start. To me the garden maze by a mansion or an estate would seem fitting as it would present a challange to the player. anybody can make a game , to make a good one takes a little more time. Ambience is key in setting a proper atmosphere thats believable, exciting and interesting. a good scare too keeps one on their toes. However I am definatly enjoying building this and plan on seeing it to completion. I am also always open to suggestions as this isn't just for me its for everyone that is a Phantasm Phan Anyone that would like to participate working on this are welcomed too,and if you have some skills in modelling ,animation or even texturing in UDK or max or maya, let me know. Thanks everyone JV Soon I'll start a new thread on this topic, stay tuned ...

I would rather them make the movie but if not then definitely a video game. I already have many ideas floating around in my head.
