What studio released the Laserdisc? MGM? I like the MGM disc better compared to the REGION 1 anchor bay dvd (now if it was compared to the sphere, I pick the sphere set because of all the commentaries (2) are on the first Phantasm & the extras).

I like both discs, they both have interesting supplements. The AB disc, however, comes in a cardboard slip cover with foil accents. Nice, BUT, the store I bought mine at put a sticker on top of the foil. As carefully as I tried to remove the sticker, it marred the foil and sort of ruined the cover. I also didn't like the look of the poster art on a white background. White? Seems an odd background, too cheerful. Doesn't look right. I'm being nitpicky, I know.

I still love my MGM release. Superior to the AB. I really need to get a new case for it, it's been around for some years now. I think it was one of the first DVD's I bought.

I've only had my copy for a little less than a year. I could've gotten one about 7 years ago or so before it became rare but I didn't. Poop!

Same here my friend got the MGM version when it first came out and I didn't because I figured it wouldn't be oop so soon.

Here's a question for anyone in the know. I have the sphere set. Are there any extras I'm missing out on by not having any of the region 1 releases?

You are missing out on the full Phantasmagoria doc. It's a great piece, truly.
You are also missing the tour with Regman and the Phan interviews with current Phantasm Community-ite's "postmortem" and "1hearseman"

I was just wondering if there were any special features on the region 1 releases that aren't included on the sphere set. I don't have the MGM Phantasm dvd or the ones recently released in Region 1 by Anchor Bay. I'm just a completist and would like any and all special features I can get. I'd also like to find one of those Phantasm II dvd's with the workprint version. I've seen a few deleted scenes on Youtube from it.

Ah, I see what you are saying... duh.
For P1 R1 DVD, no. But for the new P4 DVD, I believe that the behind the scenes footage is new, and not on the Sphere Set release.

The P2 workprint edition is worth getting, i had it but recently sold it on Ebay. But not before making back up copies.

Forgot about the MGM release... which I still think is the better P1 release.

I'm currently watching the MGM disc & was wondering about the Angus Scrimm introduction. Was it created solely for the MGM disc or was it on a previous release of Phantasm such as a laserdisc or VHS? I'm too lazy to look for myself. The introduction...I love it. Angus looks very happy to be there talking about Phantasm. We even get an eyebrow raise at the end before the movie starts.

I'm fairly positive that was recorded for the MGM release and not for some previous one. Don't quote me on that but I'm like 99% sure.

I checked my 1997 MGM VHS & didn't see any mention of the intro on it. I'd pop it in my VCR but Phantasm II is currently in there. So if it's not on that 1997 MGM VHS then I'm pretty sure it was made for the 1999 MGM DVD...unless it's on a Phantasm laserdisc somewhere.

Hate to be that jerk 1%,
But the introduction was made for the laserdisc. As far as I know, (99%) there was nothing new at all created for the MGM disc. It was a straight port-over from the laserdisc which was frickin' packing. They really pulled out all of the stops for the special edition (signed by Angus/Don) and it sold out immediately. They had to release a non-special edition just to get the film back on the shelves.

Darn! The 1% came and bit me on the rear! I thought I read somewhere that it was filmed for the MGM disc but apparently I either didn't, or what I read was incorrect.
Thanks for the correction on that Dustin!
