Psycho fans here might appreciate this bit of trivia. After the filming of Psycho III, Universal tried to jump start a television series set inside the world of Psycho, but without Norman Bates. He did appear briefly in the pilot episode for a cameo, only to die early on (he was played by the stand-in for Anthony Perkins). The series was to be called 'Bates Motel', but Universal opted not to pick it up for a full run. The two-hour pilot was broadcast several times after that as a television movie. It stars Bud Cort. Interestingly, there's no violence or killing to be had here. It's really more of a drama than anything remotely resembling horror. Watching this yesterday, I spotted Paula Irvine in a brief role. In this image, she's on the front steps of the Bates Motel looking into one of the cabins. 'Bates Motel' debuted July 4, 1987 which was only a few months before she would audition for Phantasm II.

Paula makes a cute cheerleader. Still drives me nuts how she met her demise in P3, what was Don thinking?!
