I was watching some old episodes of Cheers, as my Mrs. hasn't seen it before and came across this in an episode in the first series. The episode was Boys in the Bar and I think the Catholic church may have disapproved of his actions toward Normie

Great catch, Steve! You gotta love Cheers - it's classic. And speaking of Catholic disapproval, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops very officially and publicly denounced the first two Phantasm films. Apparently, III and Oblivion were too low-key for them to care.

That's great, I actually looked this up for a review. Here's what it says.... Phantasm -- Dreadfully amateurish attempt to cross comedy with horror in a story about two brothers in a graveyard battle with brown-robed dwarfs and a fiendish undertaker on the lookout for bodies, dead or alive. Directed by Don Coscarelli, the movie employs excessive violence, gore and nudity. (O) (R) ( 1979 ) www.usccb.org/movies/p/phantasm1979.shtmlPhantasm II -- Two teenagers (James Le Gros and Paula Irvine) and a middle-aged cohort (Reggie Bannister) track and attempt to kill a ghoulish mortician (Angus Scrimm) who can't get his fill of corpses. Director Don Coscarelli's sequel has no redeeming qualities. Excessive blood and gore, some profanity and a kinky sex scene. (O) (R) ( 1988 ) www.usccb.org/movies/p/phantasmii1988.shtmlQuite succinct reviews I thought. If you have a look on the website, they do have huge lists. Who on earth is the person who reviews all of these? Someone in the church was a truly awesome job.

Why do I get the feeling that pretty much every movie that's not Godly enough is reviewed in that manner? Dreadful, no redeeming value whatsoever. Bullshit, you're just a prude who can't stand a little bood.

They probably had issues with the sex scenes more than anyting else. I did 14 years total in the Catholic Educational system...which was like doing 25 in the joint. Anyways, 4 of those years were in the Seminary. Every so often we'd have these little in-school fundraisers for charity or the Missions or whatever. You know--pay a buck, and you could wear street clothes instead of the dress code....pay another, and you could enjoy an afternoon of open gym, or the pool, or whatever. One of the things they'd offer were movies in the library, and one time the Priests went berserk when the Student Government tried to play "Internal Affairs". Apparently, there was too much sex in that movie...and God forbid that these young Seminarians should see a straight couple getting it on. The Jean Claude Van Damme flick "Bloodsport" was okay--they didn't mind senseless violence and bad acting. But, the sex s**t in the Richard Gere flick was too over the top.

Hey dammit, i like Bloodsport! Okay, i get your point but still, i do like Bloodsport, LOL. Although a much smaller fan base than Phantasm, Bloodsport does have hardcore fans. I actually hope for a Bloodsport 2 ( a REAL part 2 w/Van Damme) just behind my hope for Phantasm 5.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the scene where the Tall Man strangles Father Meyers with a Satanic cross and says that blasphemous line. ;D
