Just wanted to say I'm a HUGE Phantasm fan, having seen the original at the theatre at the tender age of 15. Love all 4 philms and am looking forward to seeing the fifth one made.. Would like to hear anyone's impression of seeing the first one at the movies

Hello & welcome to the boards!
I really wish I could've seen Phantasm on the big screen back when it first came out. I bet it was an amazing experience for you.

Hey, Welcome!
Like The Never Dead, I haven't seen it in theatres. Wishing I could have, I know it would have been a thrill.

I am envious of those who saw it in theaters! Lucky you. I'm pretty sure my mom saw it in theaters... I'll have to ask her again. Welcome to the forum!

Hi,I'm also new here.
I never saw the first one at the movie theatre. The first one I saw was Phantasm 2 on tv.I think I was about fourteen. I instantly became hooked!

Hello all! Im new also. I recall very well when PHANTASM first came out. I saw it advertised on TV and I thought "that looks like a cool movie! Ill have to go see that one". It came to one of the drive ins in my home town . I called up one of my buddys late one friday afternoon and asked him if he would like to go see this new flick (as my girlfriend didnt care for scary movies). So right about sundown I went by my buddie's house to pick him up. I was driving my 71 340 black Cuda. I had no idea a 71 Cuda was featured in the movie. I was and still am a Mopar nut! (Im buying another btw, a black Hemi SRT Challenger as soon as they come out with the 6 speed standerd trany for 09) Any way needless to say when I saw the car on screen I flipped! I was parked near the rear , close to the snack stand so alot of people went by and almost all of them pointed and comented on my car, (HEY, THATS THE CAR!!!) It was way cool! My Cuda was an instant celebrity. I fell in love with the movie! The drive in had two screens and played four movies. When they ended they would play them again, sometimes till 3 or 4 AM, for $5.00 a car load... not bad huh? It seemed for the next few years they played PHANTASM at least once a month and I just had to go see it every time. It became an addiction! You ever seen that movie "conspiracy theory" where Jerry has the addiction to " the catcher in the rye"? Well my addiction wasnt that bad but close to that. If the movie was playing I just HAD to go see it. I have no idea how many time I saw it? Well, the Drive Ins are all gone now and DVDs rule the day . Which is BTW how I came across this site. I was looking to buy the PHANTASM box set, saw this site and just had to sign up. Its a funny thing, I just saw P4 today for the first time. It was pretty good! I liked the flash backs to the 70s the best. I saw the 2ed one when it first came out, it was better than having no PHANTASM at all but no where as good as the first. I still havet seen P3. P1 was a true masterpiece and will never be topped. The storyline, the music, the 70s culture, young Mike. It was and is a true work of art!....PS I wish I could come by in my 71 Cuda to pick all you guys up! Maybe the Tall Man could send us back in time to 1979 and we could set at the ol Drive In and watch PHANTASM till 3:00AM!

Yes, those extra scenes in OblIVion really had a major "WOW" effect if you held the original Phantasm in high regard. It was like finding buried treasure.
I had no clue part IV was out when I saw it at Blockbuster in 98', almost camouflaged by the other movies. It made me smile. It was gift for the Phans.

Nitelinger, a very warm welcome to you. Glad to have you on Community. Watch out for flying spheres.
That is the best description I've ever read for Oblivion. It absolutely *is* a gift to phans from Don Coscarelli because it doesn't really advance the story all that much. It just lets us spend more quality time with our favorite characters across the span of twenty-odd years.
