Whose seen the Phantasm II directors cut (it's included as bonus material on some DVD's)? I like that version better then the released version.

I haven't seen it, unfortunately. It's something I'd like to check out one of these days.

In my humble opinion, the work-print was a much worse version of the film. Instead of intercutting scenes to create suspense; the entire film (ENTIRE!) is linear. It kills the tension. Also; some of the added scenes don't work at all.

The workprint is fun to watch but like Dustin said some of the scenes are just so so and aren't really neccesary.

Yeah, the scenes are so-so. I did like the alternate dialogue between Mike and Reg at Morningside in the beginning though and it is always cool to see new Phantasm footage.

I haven't seen the work print yet so I can't offer an opinion on it. In general, good editing by the director should make the movie flow well and keep a good pace. I hate editing done by a studio for whatever reason. I agree its interesting to see the scenes the director chose to cut. When done well, I find the viewer can see/understand why the scene was cut or it just didn't fit.

Yeah if you ever see the workprint you'll see why the scenes were cut and the movie does flow better without them.
Still very cool to see new footage you haven't seen before.

I agree. The reg film flows much better.
A word of caution to those who havent seen it. There is no music, the picture is a little blurry and you have timers at the top and bottom of the screens, so parts you havent seen you have to rewind and watch over a couple times to catch everything. For example, I had to watch the part where reg buries the graver with a tombstone about 5 times before I saw what happened.

I really want to see Phantasm II: Workprint. There was someone selling it on ebay. Like a special collector's edition or something.

I don't know I'd buy it off ebay especially for how much they charge for those type of things.

I bought mine new off of ebay. Be careful though as most Phantasm II dvd material was only sold in europe and the dvds will not play in American equipment unless specifically designed to handle the PAL format.

OLD THREAD RESURRECTION! So since it's been a while since this thread was posted, has anyone who hasn't seen the work print seen it yet?
I still haven't, surprisingly enough.
Who likes it? Who dislikes it? What's all the hub-bub about?

I still haven't watched it either. I'm really reluctant to purchase it online, as the sites always seem shady. Maybe I'll find a copy at the con next week. Those places are usually bootleg galore.

Oh wow, I would really like a copy of that. If you do find it at the con, can you get me a copy? I'll Fed-X you a check immediately with a self-addressed Fed-X envelope so you don't have to pay postage.

So apparently there is also a Phantasm III workprint. Anyone have any insight on this?

So apparently there is also a Phantasm III workprint. Anyone have any insight on this? If you have Anchor Bay's Region 1 Phantasm III DVD from 2007, you basically have the P3 workprint. The most significant change, and practically the only one worth discussing, is Tanesha's uncut sphere drilling.
