Ok. I know Phantasm is due on Bluray soon. But I had this idea a while ago and I think I even mentioned it here in another thread. Anyway the concept is for a special edition utilizing seamless branching to create something that really hasn't been done with a movie to this extent. We all know that there is around 90 min of footage shot for the film that wasn't used. Have a special edition where there are maybe 10 different versions of the film. Don himself could create these using a lot of that footage. Imagine watching the film over and over and seeing something completely different each time. We could see the Tall Man die different ways. Or maybe not at all. Maybe it is a dream and maybe it isn't. I can't think of a film other than Phantasm that this would be more appropriate for.
Let me know what you all think.

There's hardly any activity around here anymore, but that idea is wild! It's pretty unorthodox, and that combined with Phantasm's lack of popularity at the moment would make the feature unlikely, but something like that would seriously get me buying it the first day it's released, something I hardly ever do ;D

It's a good idea, but I think that rumored 90 minutes of extra footage doesn't exist.
All the remaining footage from the original Phantasm was used in OblIVion, I think.

Are you thinking it was destroyed, or it never did exist? If the former, I think Don has made claims that he owns all the deleted footage, so he'd probably let on if it was ruined. I doubt the latter, because just putting what we have from the P1 deleted scenes plus the flashbacks from IV into the main Phantasm film makes for one hellishly disjointed movie (for instance, what was the significance of showing Jody at the bank one single time?) .

Yes. My latter refers to your former.

I'm still hoping something like this could still happen with a bluray release. I think it would be something unlike anything a director has ever done with a film. And Phantasm would be perfect for it.

I would agree with that rijirredux, way cool! Who knows, even if not as soon as we would like, cult favs like Phantasm seem to have a way of reappearing over time...
