Weird...When Liz first comes to the mausoleum for her Grandpa's funeral she begins wandering around...and then around that time we see the Tall Man take out a T shaped needle and lick something from it. What's up with that?
The first thing I thought was that it's pineal gland juice, like he gets high on it or something. (When he sticks the needle up through the guy's nostril and into his head in the Civil War flashback in Oblivion, was he looking for the pineal gland? Just thought of that.) There are stories - though they might be apocryphal - of ancient peoples who drank the pineal juice of monkeys for this purpose.
But this is what's really strange. When I saw P2 again I noticed while Liz is walking in the mausoleum she is holding a T-shaped needle herself or something that looks like it. WTF...

I never really did understand that part and is curious to why and what it symbolizes.

I always wondered too about the pin, especially when it was left as a a calling card on the nightstand.

I just assumed it was a thing Liz had on her shirt I believe it even had a Butterfly at the top.
I think she took it off and was plannin on using it to defend herself with when she ran into the Tall Man and obviously stuck him with it.
I also assumed that was his yellow goo he licked off the end. I figured he left it as a calling card so Liz would know exactly who had her grandmother.

I used to work at a funeral home wow, no kidding, for real?! What did you do there? And maybe you can answer a question. What does embalming fluid look like? Would it happen to be yellow by any chance?

I was always puzzled by this as well. I thought it was just a broach. Like wearing a carnation on your prom tux. I assumed the Tall Man was skewered by that pin from placing his hand on Liz's shoulder. But why would it be on her shoulder?

I think she accidently (or maybe not) stabbed him with it because he scared her...

embalming fluid is not yellow. It is Hot Pink. I am not joking. gives the skin a better tone like it has acutal blood in it. has to be mixed properly, in big things that look like gigantic blenders. I never did prep work, but got the general idea from speaking with my boss. I did alot of clean up and such, my closest related to the trade job was running ashes from one funeral home location to the other. Never really had a prob with the job, didn't bother me really unless they had just come in fresh. i would open the prep room door about 2 inches, slide my hand in, flip on the light and then swing open the door. Funny stuff when Jerry would forget to tell me about the mostly nude man that just came in on the prep table.

Natalie's right on this... Liz is walking through the mausoleum and takes the hair pin out. She then runs into the Tall Man and accidentally stabs it through his finger.

It doesn't really look like she stabbed him. He slapped her shoulder and her arms didn't movie.

I think it went through his finger accidentally...the first few times I saw it, I thought he held the thing up, but on closer inspection, I saw that it was sticking all the way through his finger.

Liz got startled and stabbed him--more as a reflex. Needle went through his finger. The part that always got to me was that before the Tall Man licked the (his) blood off the tip of the needle, his tongue was already yellow! Ewwwwww. I was there as they took yellow food dye and rubbed it all over Angus' tongue. It made the Tall Man even more alien...

I noticed the T-shaped needle - darn great big thing! I thought it was actually a brooch Liz wore, so maybe that's what it really was, just a brooch/pin. And I remember she caught The Tall Man's finger with something - didn't make the connection there at the time. I noticed the yellow stuff dripping from the needle - I thought The Tall Man was filled with that goop.

This was a lively discussion for a quick, albeit great scene.

Stuart Gordon's film From Beyond was ALL about the pineal gland. Even funnier as the Lovecraft story was what, three pages long? Not an awful movie by any stretch but as I love rey Combs it was not a favorite role of mine that he did. Sorry, sidetracking at the mention of the pineal gland.
Yes, brooch pin, stabbed in fear. Nothing exciting to add unfortunately.
