Angus Scrimm appeared this afternoon on filmmaker Jim McKenny's radio show, "The MonsterPants Are On" over at CultRadioAGoGo.com. Together McKenny and his guest traversed a wide variety of topics including this summer's blockbusters, the Golden age of Hollywood, Angus' terrific work with MonsterPants/Glass Eye Pix and.... get ready for it... the recent rumors regarding Phantasm 5. His comments about that last topic: "I've talked with an even more reliable source and that's Don Coscarelli himself and he has nothing to announce yet. I've never been approached nor been asked if I would be available at such a time to do anything in it. I don't think there is a definite script or a definite plan to start shooting a Phantasm 5. I know that he has footage that he's been working on experimentally, but if any of that will turn up in a Phantasm 5, I don't know. He's constantly thinking about it but this year he's been just completely immersed in the writing, preproduction, production, postproduction and promotion of John Dies at the End." - Angus Scrimm The Tall Man actor also gave a very kind shout-out to the Phantasm Archives website, which he said "has all kinds of wonderful material on the Phantasm series," and gave mention to my upcoming book on the making of the first four Phantasm films, the exact details of which will appear here at a later date. phantasmarchives.blogspot.com/2012/06/scrimm-addresses-phantasm-5-rumors.html

To add to that. Here is Don Coscarelli's latest tweet. Take from it what you will. It actually sounds like a pseudo confirmation of something in the pipeline.

I just remembered, I forgot I had this. Last year when I met Angus at Monster Mania, during the Q&A, this is what he said about P5...

I don't want to sound like a downer but I wouldn't be crushed if a P5 didn't happen. In terms of how these movies end and explain themselves or lack thereof (I mean that in a good way), to add another one would probably create more questions than answers. P3 answered a lot but ended on a massive mystery. P4 brought the whole series full circle with its elaborate and fortunate use of P1 stock footage. I wouldn't want to see what happened with Scream 4 happen to something as revered and classically elevated as Phantasm.

If there is a #5, I just hope it does buck the trend of the obscure ending, or the scare/jump ending. If it's written specifically to wrap it all up, answer the questions that are out there, and give a definitive ending to the series, I'd be happy. I don't find the ending of IV to be any sort of ending at all...it's a cliffhanger and then some. The cast has been in these films for decades, and if there's a V, it'll pretty much be the last possible film without complete recasting or the dreaded "reboot" treatment...write the movie to be a clear conclusion and that would work for me quite nicely.

I just want a Phantasm V. I don't care what the ending is like. Another cliffhanger would be fine with me, but I NEED a new film!

Hey everybody, I went to the Phantasm reunion show held at the Full Moon Festival Tattoo and Horror show in Chattanooga Tennessee. I met and talked with all Phantasm cast members at length about a P-5 and also with Don Coscarelli. I asked Don if a P-5 was going to happen and he told me to keep checking his Phantasm website and that "hopefully,in about six months,he`ll be able to make an announcement".If anybody wants to see pics. of the Phantasm Q & A session and hear about some additional P-5 information that i have gathered, contact me at gijoeman61@msn.com

.. I mean, a Fantastic Four movie was filmed years ago back in the 90's, completed and everything, but it never saw a release (I did hear it sucked by the few that worked on it)... That was a very different case. The rights holder had been sitting on it trying to get funding and was about to lose the rights. He held on to them by making a "fake" (I.e. terrible) film to buy himself more time to get money for the "real" film, but in the end he never did manage it. Occasionally you can see it being played comic conventions. It really is bad.

Has anyone bought the sequel to John Dies at the End called This Book is Full of Spiders? The reason I ask is that there was a positive excerpt on the cover of the book from Don and under his name it reads: Director, Phantasm I-V. Perhaps this is merely a mistake or perhaps we will have some news about a new project 6 months from now. Here's to hoping.

Interesting interview with Don Coscarelli on Polish site filmweb.pl. Don claims that after completing promotional tour for John Dies At The End, he will start working on Phantasm V! www.filmweb.pl/article/HALLOWEEN%3A+Rozmawiamy+z+Donem+Coscarellim-90222" Perhaps you've heard that question a thousand times, but I can not resist ... Have you ever seen "Phantasm V"? The fact that after thirty years of someone else remembers the "Phantasm" is amazing. Who would have thought then that this happens? Certainly not me, when I first stood behind the camera! I was twenty-three years, and all I could think about as soon as possible to finish this film and show it at least in a few theaters. I really did not expect that in a few years I'll be sitting here with you and answer questions about the fifth part! Now I visit a lot of festivals and I'm terribly glad that a lot of people ask me about another "Phantasm", because sometimes I wondered if in fact the next sequel is anyone to do something you need. I do not want to push, but it still does not answer my question ... Okay, I'll say it ... I decided it was time to make the decisive steps towards it. Years we still not diminished and the team responsible for a series of ages, so there is no reason to wait. Angus Scrimm is roughly the eighties, but still has the inexhaustible reserves of energy. At the moment, I can promise you that as soon as I finish a promotional tour of "John Dies at the End", I sit down to work on the fifth installment of "Phantasm". We can expect a return to the roots? I'm thinking about it, because I realize that among the fans of the series can be found those who submit to the remaining part of the first and second, because they corresponded to the manner in which the narrative and character development, and no appeal for them for the third installment of the current element of humor. And vice versa. I just have to weigh all the pros and cons and take seriously to work!"
