imdb.com/news/sb/2008-01-24/Hewlett-Packard has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to turn out DVDs from the studio's library whenever customers request them, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Thursday). The deal will allow consumers to order movies that ordinarily would not be stocked by dealers because they are too obscure or too old. HP indicated that it expects to sign similar deals with other studios. "We're hoping this provides another option to make available products that wouldn't necessarily garner widespread retail shelf space," Jason Spivak, head of strategic development at Sony Home Entertainment, told the Times. Added Doug Warner, head of HP's digital content business, "If studios can sell more catalog than previously, they can generate more money." That means if the "other studios" include Universal, there might be hope for a Phantasm II DVD in the future! HUZZAHS ARE IN ORDER!

I would really appreciate it if someone told this to Don Coscarelli. I do it, but I don't have his phone number, e-mail, or address.

I'm really sugar-coating this because the last thing I'd want to do is offend a fellow phan... but I seriously doubt this would interest the Don and the last thing he'd want is business advice from his fanbase. Look at (almost) all of his other movies - they've got d**n good treatment on DVD from restoration to supplements because he HIMSELF has had a hand in their making.
This new venture sounds like a cheap way to make a quick buck and you don't make a quick buck by restoring these films and adding supplements to them. That's awful costly. I can't imagine any filmmaker being happy about their hard work being so cheaply and disrespectfully pushed off to consumers much less someone who puts as much heart into their features like Don.
Sorry if this bursts anyones bubble. This sounds like as much of a real possibility of happening as that one naive (but well-meaning) idea someone posted a while back about "This company did this movie with Anchor Bay and with that company who did something with Universal. Maybe there's a connection."

Agreed Dustin. I just think people are so desperate to get P2 in their hands no matter what.

Mirai, I noticed something about your posts... and do not take this personally buddy, cause it's strictly an observation... but it seems like most of your posts are short one or two word responses. Just an insignificant thing I noticed.

I agree it's avaiable on Region 2 to order but I guess it's just not everyone has a R2 plyer or region free one either so I guess most people would prefer a R1 dvd but thats just my opinion. I'm good either way myself Mirai may be the smartest person here by saying few words

Have you seen the picture quality on the HP disks? I heard Spherical once say he prefers picture quality over extras.

Have you seen the picture quality on the HP disks? I heard Spherical once say he prefers picture quality over extras. Spherical also prefers not actually buying any of these releases but rather just talking about them and how he'd love perfect picture quality. I think it was something like six months after he had opened SW that he finally saw P3 and P4 for the first time but was talking about getting restored editions before that. I think if he could only see the AB restored transfers then he would be satisfied.

What if sonmeone called Anchor Bay and asked to come to an agreement with Universal liked they did before with Army Of Darkness? Would THAT work?

Not really. Few of these ideas hold ground in any financial reality in this or any other dimension. And that's no slam, I'd love things to be as simple as these ideas present.

Have you seen the picture quality on the HP disks?... I think that is the issue. A bare bones release would be better than nothing. At least for a lot of people. Don hinted in one of his commentaries (IOAOAMR or Bubba maybe?) that he might at least get away from doing commentaries. So, if the transfer is excellent... I would need extra features though. Or a Director's cut. P2, IMO, is still the weakest link.
