Guess what came in the mail today! (My book proofs arrived... these are copies I use to see things that need fixing/adjusting!) I guess I can also report now that Phantasm Exhumed will end not only with a section on Phantasm: Ravager, but with three behind the scenes pictures from it as well! View AttachmentBah! I need it now! So how did it turn out? You happy with it?

Bah! I need it now! So how did it turn out? You happy with it? I think it turned out well! I do see some spacing/alignment issues that I will want to correct. Also going to try and up the quality on a few images, but all in all - very happy with it. It's incredibly surreal to finally hold this in my hands after so many years of working on it

Hey gang, just an update - I haven't much been able to comb through my proof copies this week as I've been struck with a debilitating case of Norovirus. It is only by the grace of Phenergan and Zofran that I'm well enough to type this now. I think I'm on the upswing, however, and will continue proofing Exhumed tomorrow. At this point, with the lost time due to my sickness, I'd say we're still at the "week or so" mark. Very very close.
Thanks everyone for their patience. I know the anticipation of this project is pretty high and I don't want to disappoint. I'm reminded of something Angus once said about missing deadlines during his time at Capitol Records writing liner notes. He says that he would ask his editors "Do you want it Tuesday or do you want it good?" to which they would reply, "I want it Tuesday and it damned well better be good!"
We're almost there!

Yeah, I do hope you get better soon. And take your time with the project. Patience definitely is a virtue, and I can most certainly wait. Health is much more important than meeting the deadlines. Shoot, I waited 16 years for PV, I think a few more weeks for your book wouldn't kill me. But hey, if you do need an extra fresh set of eyes to comb through the rough copies, I would gladly volunteer as tribute. If anyone who knows me really knows me, I'm actually pretty good at proof-reading other people's material. Shoot, I was an editor-in-chief of my yearbook back in high school, and had to proof-read that whole "mutha".

I would totally have been down with you looking it over. Just a little too late for a new set of eyes at this point. Seriously thanks, though. Maybe on my next book, the making of The Beastmaster Series? (KIDDING! I am so kidding.)

Dustin, has the publishing industry advanced to the point that they can do a quick turn around like this? Pretty amazing. I've always imagined getting a book printed and bound was a long process. I'm interested as to how it actually works?

So close now. Can't wait! I'm curious as well to know if it will be in hardcover or not. The standard version will be softcover and black and white. Sorry if that disappoints anyone - it was my goal to make Exhumed accessible with its cost. There will be a limited signed, color edition in the near future that will boast additional photo pages which may or may not be hardcover. Still working out the details on that one. Dustin, has the publishing industry advanced to the point that they can do a quick turn around like this? Pretty amazing. I've always imagined getting a book printed and bound was a long process. I'm interested as to how it actually works? Pretty d**n quick, actually. Had my final revisions turned in the other week. Just waiting for the process to wrap up!

That's awesome Dustin! Hopefully I can snag one so that I can have a shelf copy and a reader. Chances are my first copy will be well used!
Any chance of releasing the color or B&W in a digital format?

That's awesome Dustin! Hopefully I can snag one so that I can have a shelf copy and a reader. Chances are my first copy will be well used! Any chance of releasing the color or B&W in a digital format? My first priority after the standard release of the book will be getting the e-book versions out there. It is my intention to pack them with color photos, though I am concerned about file size. The book file I submit for printing is nearly half a gigabyte. Even the most scaled down PDFs I generate are still 200mb. I'll just have to see how much I can pack in without exceeding the file limits for the Kindle, iPad and Nook. If I can't get all 260+ images into the e-books, maybe I can get the best ones in along with some color photos that didn't make the standard edition. There were some gorgeous color images that didn't translate well to BW that didn't make the standard book (esp on P3 with the mausoleum lasers). Perhaps those would do well in the ebook.
