TRAILER IS UP!:insidemovies.ew.com/2014/03/27/phantasm-5-ravager-trailer-exclusive/Looks pretty good, actually; it has a John Dies at the End vibe with the weird-looking creature designs, although I really do NOT like the look of some of the el cheapo CG blood and bullet stuff. Here's hoping those are temp effects and the final film will look a bit more upmarket. Also, good to see visual confirmation of Mike, Lady in Lavender and Angus all returning. What do you think?

Looks incredible to me. According to Don there are going to be some big surprises. So far it looks like Don made a good call with Hartman.

Looking closely, Reggie appears to have a midget soldier sidekick at about 00:25, as Mike is firing the grenade launcher.

I have to admit I was beyond excited when the movie was announced a couple days ago. But when I heard Don didn't direct or write my excitement faded a bit, all it took was that teaser when the theme started and seeing the Tallman walking down that corridor. Man its a good time to be a Phantasm phan bring it on.

I get the feeling that Don is done with Phantasm but doesn't want to give up the rights or allow remakes. It's looking like he wanted someone he could trust to keep the name alive and if the film holds up to that trailer I think he picked the right guy.

Outside of the horrible CG blood which should never be used outside of an Asylum film, it looks really great!
Do we have a release date on this yet?

Am I the only one who thinks that looked like garbage? Not tryin to be a hater, I know it's just a teaser and the film itself may be great and well-written, but that just looked cheap and half assed to me. Directed by the guy who did the special effects for Bubba Ho Tep and JDATE? Those effects were terrible! Still don't understand why they didn't get kickstarter to throw some money at this thing.

I see where you are coming from: the effects in the trailer definitely have me concerned. I am not an FX snob, but YouTube-quality After Effects CGI would absolutely detract from the classy visuals and otherworldly vibe of the Phantasm series. I am taking heart from the fact that the production values in the non-FX shots look a lot stronger and more interesting than I'd anticipated, the cast is back, and Don't has said that the post production is just beginning, so there is a good chance those are just some temporary visual effects that will be improved later on before release.

Yup, those special effects and that CGI looked very cheap indeed, but I truly hope that these are just for the pre-production and the final movie will look much better. Fingers crossed.
