I check The Phantasm Community website two or more times a day for Phantasm Ravager updates. most of the the time its like Perigord or Holtsville around here. I am sure things will pick up when the offical trailer comes out in the next few months. Now that Phantasm 5 has a composer. I quess we will see the theatrical trailer in a few months. I just noticed the Super Sphere is rotating I wonder what that could mean. any Ideas?

I've raised the white flag on CGI. Seems like it's OK for The Walking Dead to use CGI squibs all day but when Romero or Coscarelli use it people come out of the woodwork, once I realized the hypocrisy I called it a day. I used to be one of those people that harped on CGI squibs, there's no point anymore; it's use is not going anywhere so I'll just put my energy into watching/reading what I enjoy. Speaking of reading; I would love to see Romero do a crossover into the Phantasm universe with his Empire of the Dead comics. I think there are a few things at play here, though. Coming from an era prior to the easy availability of digital visual effects, people like Romero and Coscarelli have built up an oeuvre of films with a particular vibe, and a particular look, which in part stems from the styles of cinematography and types of effects used. For something like The Walking Dead to use heavy CGI isn't so much of an issue because it's a new show (relatively speaking) that stands alone, it doesn't have any associated nostalgia or any need to maintain visual continuity with a predecessor like the Phantasm films have, until now. great post. mirrors my thoughts almost exactly. i largely abandoned the genre for pastures entirely new in the mid-90s (around the time CGI was becoming dominant), and so, P5 really is a case of "i thought i was out, and they pulled me back in!". i'm not very optimistic, but RAVAGER is too big to ignore. (however, if they announce a remake of PHANTASM in a few years, you guys are on your own!)

So what about this "Special Surprise" that the folks going to this Phantasm screening tomorrow are supposed to expect? Do you think we'll be any closer to seeing Ravager come the morning of May 1st? What will it be? A trailer? A scene from the movie? A release date?

I'm not getting my hopes up for anything. Where's that epic cut of Phantasm? Where's that release of Jim the World's Greatest? Sigh. Going in with low expectations and hoping to come out pleasantly surprised.

i'm thinking the full trailer. i don't want spoilers, though the way things are going i could have completely forgotten it by the time the movie actually comes out.

So just read they indeed showed a new trailer with Jody driving a cuda with guns attached, dwarves and Tallman grimacing. Not going to get excited until there's a release date. Just seems they have been teasing us for too long.

Just seems they have been teasing us for too long. Oh wow, I got goosebumps just reading that. Now why don't they release it online for us poor folk who don't live near Texas? I agree, this tease is excruciating, and I know I said before that anticipation is part of the fun, but it looks like they've been doing this with other future releases lately. Batman vs Superman comes to mind. I've been watching that trailer at least twice a day since it's debut, which, granted, wasn't too long ago, but it has a 2016 release date! At the very least, they should try to give us a ballpark figure on when Ravager could be released. I remember a fellow phan on here saying 3rd or 4th quarter, but that's a little vague. I'm not sure if these premature releases of trailers are to build hype or make fans pull their hair out.

I all honesty, Coscarelli and the rest probably don't know when it's going to be released. It's not a studio picture with all the infrastructure of release already in place. It's an niche indie picture, so they need to find a distributor to release it for them, and there's probably a lot of bargaining and maneuvering going on with various companies as they try to get it the best release at the most favourable terms. It the end of the day, the release date will probably be down to whatever company buys the rights to release it.

You made me realize how foolish my comparison was to Batman vs Superman, given that's more a "mainstream" film. Also puts into perspective the work Don and Co. are probably putting not only into the movie itself, but that pesky distribution phase as well.

Even more excited about that live commentary being recorded and it's probable inclusion in a new Phantasm box set that Don hinted at. I hope Scream Factory do it. Loved the Halloween boxed set.

What about the majority of us who did NOT attend Texas Frightmare? When can we see this new RaVager footage? Did a bunch of technically challenged people attend this event? Why is there no shaky cell phone camera footage of this? I can watch a shaky cell phone camera version of the Batman v Superman trailer no problem. What gives?

Or there could have been a couple of sentinel spheres hunting for any uplifted sell phones. I would like to see the footage too.

The panel discussion really doesn't say much but better than nothing....still was enjoyable to see everyone excited about the new chapter.

Actually, I heard from someone who attended that Don specifically asked the audience in advance NOT to record the Ravager footage on their mobile devices and, more so, that he did not want to see the footage turn up on YouTube.

Actually, I heard from someone who attended that Don specifically asked the audience in advance NOT to record the Ravager footage on their mobile devices and, more so, that he did not want to see the footage turn up on YouTube. I posted a comment on FB after the con and asked why noone recorded it. I'm glad for the people who were able to go and see this event in person. I would have liked to gone but my family and private life come first. One guy who was bragging non-stop and acting like a teenager said he went and saw the trailer. This is what he had to say. If there are any typos,it's not mine. I'm copy/pasting it from FB. lol. “Two reasons. The Alamo drafthouse is very strict on cell phone/texting etc. Also, we knew we were getting something but it was promoted to be AFTER the screening. What happened was during the previews for other film screenings coming to the Alamo drafthouse they just showed the footage without any warning. At first you could hear a pin drop in the place as no one was quite sure what we were seeing or if it was just a gag. Once everyone realized it was in fact Ravager footage the place went nuts. Speaking with director David Hartman at TFW he said both he and Don wanted a pure audience reaction, which is why they didn't say anything and just showed it”. “The most intriguing scene was one of simple dialogue between Michael and Reggie. It looks like Reggie is in a mental hospital of some sort and Mike is explaining the theories behind "alternate realities/time lines." It is not made clear if Mike is also a patient, friend, the Mike we know or a doctor. Mike, while trying to explain, asks if he would like to get Reggie a book on it. Reggie, somewhat pissed, says "I don't need a d**n book. I need my 4 barrel shotgun." Another scene shows more context to the Lady in Lavender floating scene from the teaser. Reggie comes through a dimensional gate into a familiar looking setting. The lady in Lavender floats toward him with her toes scratching the floor and sounding like grinding metal. She looks at him like she's about to kiss him but then her face gets very....ugly. Other shots are of Reggie and Mike on the red planet wearing gas masks to breathe (some of this was in the Christmas video Don and David released at that time). Several cool sphere shots. One of which was stationary and looked like it turned and looked at you, like a person would. A shot of the giant sphere. Shot of the Tall Man telling someone (Mike I think) to "stay out of my way." Jody in the hemicuda that now has mounted guns on it. It all looked great. There was more but one shot in particular I don't want to spoil. The Mike/Reggie scene I mentioned had me thinking of many ways this might go. It will be interesting to see if I'm even slightly correct. David Hartman said he had to be careful about what they showed so as to not give anything away. It’s full of surprises. Everyone cheered when they saw it and those that were there talked about it all weekend at TFW. It was awesome”. “Two reasons.
