Phantasm hit theater screens 35 years ago today. What a marvelous milestone to have finally hit and so great to see the series is more popular than ever! Just for kicks, I'm attaching some vintage 1979 newspaper ads for Phantasm. Moviegoers would've seen these advertisements 35 years ago just before discovering the wonderful, wild world of Phantasm!

Omigod, those newspaper ads are bringing back such a warm rush of excitement! I want to run out to a midnight screening now! My anniversary is June 15th/16th because "Phantasm" didn't hit the mid-Atlantic coast until June 1st. It was a summer film, and a wonderful one at that! I was just about to start high school...

Phantasm associated with summer. I first watched the film in the summer of 1995. Also, the movie was filmed in South California where eternal summer

That's amazing! I remember going to the drive-in for this release. My older brother stuffed me in the trunk if his car and snuck me in to see this.
Ah, just kidding. I was non-existant at that time.

I was fourteen too. I think there was something extra magical for us seeing the main hero, Mike, up on screen at our own age and doing all sorts of cool things we only wished we could do in real life!

Yeah, I know that feeling, Kristen. It would have been cool for me to "grow up" with Mike, seeing him driving that sexy Cuda and wishing I could. But I think I may have had it harder. See, I "grew up" with the Harry Potter kids. If only I could do those things.

Laughing! So true! I can't see myself running around in black graduation robes pointing a wand... I saw a young man at the grocery store eagerly devouring Divergent. So this new generation will be futuristic warriors like Katniss and Tris! I guess that's kind of cool, but a far cry from the humble washed-out blue jeans and flannel shirt seventies look of Michael Pearson.

Natalie, it doesn't matter that you weren't there when Phantasm first came out, what does matter is that you appreciate a classic horror. I hadn't watched the films for several years but never stopped being a fan. What attracted me to the films was the characters, the concept of a tall alien humanoid from another dimension that creates dwarfs and spheres out of the dead to do his bidding. Not only that you have very average people as the hero's and you get to see them grow stronger in each film..each in their own way. I have to agree the Cuda is awesome..even more so than the Impala in Supernatural! The theme music for Phantasm is perfect.. it couldn't get much better. In a way it kind of reminds me of something from Hammer House of Horror.

I like what you say there.
Ah, are we a Supernatural fan? Love that show. For me, it's actually quite a tough choice between Dean's Impala and the Cuda. But I can't help but go for the Cuda every time.
