See subject header. Is this a real town? I mean, outside of the films.

I don't know about a real Holtsville, but I remember in Phantasm III shot of a map with an arrow denoting Boise Idaho. Also, I was messing around with the zillow.com website that was mentioned in the Phantasm house thread in my area and was surprised to discover that one of the local cemeteries is named Morningside. This Morningside is right next to another bigger cemetery, which I always knew as Oakwood. When I get a chance I'm going to see if there is a big sign at the entrance.

Holy hannah, that would be so cool to snag... It occurred to me, that's weird that it used to be called Oakwood. That's just like something you'd imagine happening in Holtsville...or Bolton...or Perigord...etc. Local cemetery named Morningside used to be called something else? I always knew it, the Tall Man is no dream...

No luck so far, I did however find out thru a Goggle search that quite a few cemeteries are name Morningside. I'm still going to look for a sign, but in the mean time I have learned alot about the two cemeteries and my local area that I never knew, even found some old maps that were very interesting.

I don't know if I'd want to go there. I bet the Tall Man cleared it out.

I paused the movie at the point where Reggie was looking at the map, and realized the map was showing eastern Oregon.
I spent half my life in northern and southern Idaho, so it wasn't too far from where I was living.
Unfortunately, there is no Holtsville, but the other towns shown on the map are real. I opened up Google Earth and zoomed in to the spot where Holtsville was supposed to be on the map, but there was nothing there.
I'll open up Google Earth later on and post the coordinates here, so you guys can see for yourselves. One of these days--when I move back to Idaho--I'll take a road trip to "Holtsville" and take some pictures. ;D
EDIT: My video card died on me last week, and I can't run Google Earth without it. When I finally get a new card installed, I'll be back with some coordinates!

Sorry for the wait! Got the wrong video card by mistake. Had to return it and order a new one, which got here yesterday. It's been that kind of month.
The coordinates for where I have Holtsville marked are:
43 degrees 50' 27.33" N 117 degrees 36' 48.90" W
And that's based mainly off of the map that shows up in the movie, so it might not be exact.

So it probably just barren land...
That's what always happens after The Tall Man leaves.

Indeed. Makes it almost eerily realistic. ;D
When I move back up there in a little less than 2 years, I'm planning on taking a road trip to check it out first-hand.

It does fit in quite nicely with the film's mantra.

Well that makes sense to be barren land after the Tall Man has been though it.
Cool you got the coordinates though!

I wish he could come through Orlando.... This place would be much nicer if it was barren.

I notice a lot of times how you seem to dislike living in Florida, Obliviongoon... why not move? You're originally from Ohio, no? You could come be a mid-westerner again like so many of us... The Never Dead, Natalie, and myself included!

Oh, it's in the future, that's for sure.
It's not Florida, it's the people that live in Florida.
This was a different town when I moved here 15 years ago. Back then, Miami was a BAD town. Now Miami is tame and Orlando has become a crime capital.
Sadly, it will probably be a few years before I can move. I can't afford a year out of school or the out of state tuition.
