I know there is lots of feelings about this part, being too funny etc...
But what did you miss in this part??
I did miss dwarfs in this part. Ther is a tree fight in the beginning, but then the entire film is dwarf-free, and I love the dwarfs goofing around... I wanted more dwarfs in this part!!!
What did you guys miss???

For me, III is the one where it all comes together. The whole gang is back, all the monsters are featured (although: agreed, there could be more dwarves), the effects are great, the supporting cast is fun (perhaps too much so, but hey ho)...
If I had to pick something, I'd say I miss the guts and ingenuity Mike shows in I, II and IV. In III, sure he takes out a few monsters, but he spends a lot of the film being the "damsel in distress".

I miss not having an explanation for why Liz was so quickly killed without any exposition and why it had to be at the hands of lowly dwarf and not The Tall Man himself. Actually I think the crash and burn killed her and being dinner for a dwarf was adding insult to injury. Maybe it was Don's way of sticking it to the executives at Universal for making him write her into the story in the first place.

Yeah it seemed off that they killed Liz instantly since she was a major character in II, but they did the same to Tim in IV.

I suppose you have to expect the unexpected in this series!

Yeah it seemed off that they killed Liz instantly since she was a major character in II, but they did the same to Tim in IV. It was even worse for Tim, IMO, because they didn't even give him the dignity of a death scene. P3 ends with his life hanging in the balance, and P4 picks up every loose thread from P3 except the very one it ended on. Just as if the character never existed. He isn't referred to, he doesn't appear in any flashbacks, Reggie doesn't behave as if he witnessed his death or ever even knew of such a person. The character and every trace of his existence is pulled out of that window, never to be seen again. I understand why they did it. The actor would be well into adolescence by the time of P4, and the character wasn't too popular and wouldn't have had much to do in OblIVion. I get that. But a) they should have thought of that when shooting the third film's ending, and b) even f**k**g Jar Jar got a couple of brief appearances after getting booed off the screen the first time around. I get that Phantasm has a fairly loose continuity that can somewhat be explained by interdimensional shenanigans, but leaving a plot hole so big a whole character falls through it into the void just feels really mean-spirited and cynical. And this is from someone who doesn't mind Hicks and Newt dying off at the start of Alien 3.

Watch OblIVion a little more closely, krakenslayer - particularly the sequence where Reggie dreams about Mike as the Tall Man. He notices something scampering through some tall weeds or grass - something child-sized, in a red hoodie.

And if you mean what I think you mean, Reggie sees... something mirroring his steps on the other side of the tall reeds. It looks adult-sized, and I don't think it's wearing a red hoodie, but it might be wearing some sort of mask. However, if it is a mask, it doesn't match the one worn by Tim in Part III: I actually think it's supposed to be some kind of mirror image of Reggie.

I always defend 3, and yes i even liked he original "Lord of the Dead" subtitle...when Michael Baldwin was asked about 3 being too funny and different from the originals he replied 'who said we wanted to remake the first ones anyway?' and i agree with him...3 was brilliant in its own right and a great chapter. We should probably get Dustin to reference this, but it seems i remember Don confirmed that the dream scene in Oblivion was of Tim in the mask...something about wings on the hoodie or some such...? Again, the go to person would be Dustin but i am sure i remember that being somewhat official...i would be pleasantly astounded if Tim showed up in RaVager still fighting the Tall Man in adulthood! -Prymal
