I am doing a Phantasm marathon. I just watched this film again and wonder where the Demon Cop comes from? It does not seem to resemble any of the other 'enemies' in the films. I think it more reminds me of the 'Maniac Cop' from that other film series Anyone have any ideas...

Maybe Don threw it in as a playful nod to Maniac Cop. It seems to suggest that the Tall Man's evil grip has even reached the police force. In fact, it is the only time a cop is seen in the series!

That scene always stood out to me too, and felt oddly out of place. For me, the series is more about the psychological/bizarre rather than the monsters and creatures.
Although I will say I absolutely love the demon fly in the first film!

Isn't the trooper kinda similar to the nurse from P3, i.e a zombie that can look perfectly human for a time, and then eventually "reverts" back to looking dead? Though the trooper looked far worse than than the nurse (guess it was being in that desert sun, ha). And he didn't have a sphere in his head either!

Actually, the original script for Oblivion called for a sphere to burst from the Demon Trooper's skull as he burned inside the car just like what happened to the Demon Nurse in P3. That little tidbit is from my book, Phantasm Exhumed, along with some other unrealized details originally planned for that scene. (Yeah, shameless self plug!)

Yes and that is mentioned in the part IV commentary, about the silver sphere inside the demon cop's head. but Don scraped it... maybe no money left for more effects... it would have given the scene much more essence that how it is noww.. so there is a connection between the cop and the nurse, bothe also being namned "demon cop" "demon nurse" in the after texts.
