I was at wonder con and had a chance to chat with the lovely Gigi and reggie the man at the autograph booth. It appears its gonna be 2015 but they need to finish it a few minor details. I would speculate that the release would be first limited theater with character introductions by Don..etc in the host cities followed by a VOD date and then a Blue Ray date.
Every indication is that this is gonna be the "BEST" entry in the yet. I cannot revel why my opinion is that way...but trust me>>>NO ONE is gonna be disappointed. Yes they could have rush released this....but the powers that be "Don" is making sure this is done right and well after...17 years... a truly unique movie set of 5 films...it like we have all grown up together...and that is what makes it special....we have quality people here..who give a damm about us...the fans....so 3 or 4th quarter we are gonna be happy.
Don has not done the "hollywood" sell out of the franchise that he could....it not about the money.......on this one..hang in there.....it will prove to be worth the wait

3rd or 4th quarter release, eh? Sounds like it'll be released around Halloween, which has to be fine I guess...maybe July at the earliest. Hell, we've waited this long. If they need more time to polish it up and tweak it, I say let them take their time.
As a "phan", it's killing me because I want to see this d**n thing, but at the same time, anticipation is part of the fun. It's nice to have something new to look forward to in the Phantasm realm.

I generally look forward for summer, and now I have something to look forward to this fall.
Great hints you seem to have gotten from them.
I also think this part will rock phan foundation. Everything will be different this year, for the better.

My money is on the screening of a new trailer after the screening. Probably the long-awaited full-length trailer in the style of the previous Phantasms ("Phantasm n. The delusion of a disordered mind. A phantom. A spirit. A ghost..."). Whether or not it will include a release date or simply be a "coming soon" affair I couldn't guess. There is also an outside chance that they will show the entire movie after the P1 screening, but that doesn't seem too likely. EDIT: Advertising this event so intensely as "the LAST 35mm screening with the entire cast in attendance" is kinda weird, don't you think? I know they were probably looking to generate a sense of urgency and limited availability to ensure it sold out (which it now has), but it also comes across a little bit like they're putting a nail in Angus's coffin, which isn't very nice.

it sounds slightly unfortunate. possibly they meant that the 35mm film prints are going to be retired, and that it'll just be projected discs from this point on; a film to digital thing. i don't know.

2016 is gonna be a great year for PHAN...look for a complete box set with new supplement materials in Blu.....They are taking there time on this one...why not..I still expect a late late (oct 30 or later) release this year on limited theater release, VOD, and then the blu-box....I get updated info from Reg at the san diego comic con...if any other Phans are attending let me know, I will be there Sat and Sun...also I just got today, the "red planet Edition" of Phan Exum....5 stars and the new chapter is worth the price of the book alone....very well done, I can bring it to SDCC if anybody wants to look at it.

Well it's September already and Halloween is almost here and no release date. Might as well except the fact this movie is not coming out this year. Sad to say it. If this movie were to be coming out in October they would have already announced this.
Unless Coscarelli is planning some kind of release coinciding with Star Wars. I remember reading how when P1 was released the original SW was coming out and people were comparing the dwarfs with the Jawas. Now an all new SW is coming out and P5 might be coming out at some point, why not around the same time.

I'm at a point where I'm just pissed off now. The teaser was March of 2014 as a "surprise" It's a done deal. I figured I'd of seen the movie within a few months. Then just lame facebook posts and the Christmas teaser with minimal footage and a "It's in the can" promise for 2015. Then God Forbid they allow that new trailer to stay up! What's the big deal? At this point they should be kissing the fans asses for this ridiculous wait. No news, no date, no trailer!! At this point it is just f**k**g mean. They can't find a distributor?? Who did part IV or III? They can't go back to them? This won't get a theatrical release so just go with a DVD and get it out there!! Sheesh.

Hey, I heard there was a "Phantasm V" a couple years back...
All kidding aside, I agree, this wait is getting a little frustrating. What I've been wondering is if they tried going with "Anchor Bay" as a distributor, them being loyal to the series with those special edition releases and all.
Not to sound selfish, but I don't care about a theatrical release either...mostly because I live in a rural area where the nearest showing would probably be 20 hours away from me anyway, but I'd be willing to shell out $35 for even a bare bones Blu-ray right now.

I think the frustration is justified. It's been one giant mis-step after another these past two years where Ravager is concerned. We're looking at the biggest black eye the filmmakers have incurred since the re-casting of Michael Baldwin on Phantasm II. And this could all have been avoided with a little communication along the way.
Communication from a filmmaker to his fan base. It's really not difficult. Even friggin' Charles Band gets that one right.
What's even more frustrating is you've got a loud faction of the phan base that are so blindly enamored with all things Phantasm that they refuse to step back and assess the situation. They're the ones shouting down others with "PATIENCE, HAVE PATIENCE! GOD, IT'S COMING!" They're also the ones that jump down the throat of anyone who dares ask, "Have they announced a release date yet?"

Nothing helps the creative process like constant demands for status updates.

They're also the ones that jump down the throat of anyone who dares ask, "Have they announced a release date yet?" Couldn't have said it better myself. The teaser was released 2 years ago with maybe 2 updates between then and now and the status is either final tweaking or distribution. As much as the announcement of Phantasm V and the teaser itself were VERY welcome, neither of these things should've been made public until they had a solid game plan with distribution in a reasonable time frame. I'm a huge "phan" and have nothing but respect for Don and David, but this is just getting ridiculous now. Edit: For the past few days, just for the hell of it, I've been tracking that leaked 4 minutes of footage posted on various tube sites. In one case, it was taken down in less than 3 hours after post time. Area 51 doesn't do as good a job of suppressing Alien information than this.

I agree with all of you, specially Dustin. This is just getting absurd. What pisses me off the most is the fact that we can't view that the leaked trailer because it gets removed each time. I mean it's already been made, it's a film that doesn't have any updates whatsoever so what harm shall it do for the fans to view it!? Then you have people on the Phantasm Ravager fan page on Facebook, I won't name any names since they know who they are but they constantly say "if you post anything about the trailer you will be banned" "have patience, it's coming" "the word is patience"just ridiculous stuff like that. Honestly I think close to 2 years of waiting is enough, the fans deserve a LITTLE bit of information at the very least.

At this point, the word "patience" should be banned from that Ravager fan page. And what is it about that 4 minutes of footage that's so important to suppress? It was good enough to show at a major convention in Texas, in front of a crowd full of fans, but it's forbidden on the internet? Something's not adding up here. As a fan who's loyal enough to buy anything Phantasm I spot in local stores (even picked up a beautiful bootleg t-shirt at a local independent record store!), and lives pretty close to the Canadian border, I find the exclusivity of that trailer to convention-goers silly and unfair. I can see giving them first glance at it, but afterwards to lock it up and hide it away from the fanbase who couldn't attend because of reasonable excuses?
I'll be generous here and I won't even beat that dead horse about a release date in this post.

I have a couple theories on why we haven't heard anything as well as why it's taking so long to complete. If you look long and hard at the production itself it's taken almost 8 years to make this film which leads me to believe that the budget was so low the team might have bitten off more than they could chew. How do you make a micro budget Phantasm sequel in this day and age and deliver on such high expectations? I don't know this for a fact but it's certainly possible it cost less than Oblivion and from what we've been hearing the delay has to do with completing the VFX. Perhaps they got too ambitious and couldn't deliver the goods and are now biding their time trying to polish a turd or David Hartman's health problems have held things up and they're waiting to see the outcome. I'm an optimist so I'm hoping that neither scenario is the case, especially the David Hartman situation as I hope he is well. With that said I have worked in the industry for nearly 20 years and am all too familiar with making overly ambitious micro budget films. It usually never ends well. Don has always been the exception to the rule, and I still hope that's the case. Maybe there will be some more announcements this weekend.

The FX is not complete. That is what I am hearing...release date 1st quarter 2016...for PREVIEW version....Distrib deal after preview.
You won't be disappointed either.

Well, regardless of post production problems or unknown release dates, it's mostly a lack of updates and communication to fanbase from the team, leaving us in the dark. The film completed shooting 2 years ago. Where VFX are concerned, these aren't amateur filmmakers we're talking about; these people are professionals at what they do. Don is notorious for making things work on a shoestring budget...he's like the MacGyver of independent filmmaking. Would VFX seriously take 2 years to polish? And apparently Don said a few companies are interested in distribution.
I agree, hopefully they release more news this coming weekend but with social media being a thing nowadays, status reports shouldn't be a convention exclusivity either.
