List your most watched (highest replay value) Phantasm Films from the Series (in order)/ and why...
In my opinion, "replay value" doesn't necessarily mean, the best film, it just means that it's easy to watch repeated times. Kind of like a cd that may not be your top favorite, but you constantly keep it in rotation (because of it's entertainment/enjoyment factor).
Here's my list/explanations
1. Phantasm III - Of the five films this is the one I watch the most. I know a lot of people don't like it as much, because of the comedy, but that's what makes me enjoy it/not get bored. I love the zombies/minions (they keep the film from dragging along/just when you think they're dead, they keep coming back/especially the zombie chick). My favorite scenes are the car chase (chick zombie gets shot/ran over), then when she surprises Reggie under the covers (after having just suffered a horrendous car death).
2. Phantasm I - Part One is a great film, but in replay value, i rank it #2 (behind part 3), just because P3 is more modern looking and P1 is a little dated. But, i still think P1 is the best of the series (story-wise).
3. Phantasm II - P2 is an action/horror film, and although I think it's tied for 2nd place with P3 (in terms of best overall film), it is slow in spots (i.e. Liz's grandmother's backstory, priest, etc). When it comes to replay value, I want to be entertained throughout. The comic relief is very minimal in this film (and the horror element is more the focus).
4. Phantasm IV - P4 is a decent film, but the scenery/desert and everything seems kind of static and uninteresting. This has a lower replay value, except for the outtakes/P1 footage that help move the film along and the time travel (Jebediah's laboratory, etc).
5. Ravager - I think i've made it clear that I just don't enjoy Ravager. I think the nostalgia of seeing the cast reunite (one last time) and the bitter-sweetness of Angus Scrimm's swan song made many phans have a temporary sentimental (tingly-feeling) about watching this film (ignoring/looking past the negative aspects).
But as time passes, I think more people will re-watch Ravager less and less. We all know, it's just not that good of a film. On top of it's obvious flaws, this film just has the most wasted scenes/time of any film (Reggie walking around, surveying empty space for nothing significant to happen). This makes it hard to re-watch, knowing that 5 minutes spent walking down a corridor, woods, or in a desert, has no big payoff. So it will get the least replay value (IMO).
