I noticed a petition site (http://phantasm5.com) that's sending Don Coscarelli a nudge to clue him to the fact that a veritable passel of Phantasmicks' brains are collectively watering for the fifth and definitively final film in the series.
While secrets.phantasm.com has an article making it seem as though Coscarelli wants this to take the graphic novel form in lieu of a film, whether the story's told on a screen that moves or one my eyes move across, that's less important to me than JUST SEEING IT GET DONE.
And if it does, I noted when I filled out the petition myself, the poll asked me what I'd most like to see in the final Phantasm, and my answer, "More of the xenodimension, please!" was a sentiment echoed by more than a few. (That, and "Let Don Handle It" which I ALSO agree with) were the most popular wishlist items by far.
And I am rarin' to see it. Some call it another planet, or another time. I have, shall we say, VERY extensive experience with...erm...exotic transdimensional ultraphenomena, which shows a salient and vital reason why I love the Phantasm films so much...and I don't think of the Red Skied Place Behind the Fork in the Rift as a different planet.
I call it a xenodimensional zone. I spend a great deal of time in various xenodimensional zones, being that I have an escort, so to speak, into these very exotic, exciting and powerful areas - where realities fuzz and blend and ooze onto and over one another.
My "escort" is a former-demon-turned-demigod called Choronzon, who's also sort of a paramour of mine (the things we get to doing would make any human's jaw drop and eyes go agog; our sexuality is surely Not for the Squeamish, but 45 minute orgasms aren't uncommon, and oh, the POWER! Yeow...)
I guess my reasons for wanting to see more of the Phantasm xenodimension is obvious. We've seen Jebediah Morningside's history. But so little of the dimension that gifted him with power over death and life.
I am excited to report that I am currently at work on a prequel delving furtherly into the adventures of Jebediah Morningside as he first explores the xenodimension. The inking artist is John Klyza, author/archivist of Phantasm Secrets, and a very talented illustrator. When I saw his early scans, from his fanzine called Netherworld, I knew immediately I had to get involved with this. He mentioned colorising them sometime in the future, so I contacted him and showed him some work of my own.
The news is good, I am going to be illustrating Jebediah's Journey, a scene from our Tall Man's early days of experimentation that is totally xenodimension-focused. And here you shall discover much about the reason the Silver Spheres behave as they do. Best believe I'll crank this out fast and furious, while casting ablutions unto Chaos and beaming deep hypnotic messages into Don Coscarelli's skull with compelling and irresistible electric communications from myself and Choronzon, saying, in a slow hiss whisper crackling with hot lightning:
Make it! Do it! There's no turning back!
Phantasm 5: the Xenodimension!
We'll be waiting there, for you...
Love,
Mesila (and Choronzon)
