I'd be happy to give you the low down on all the extras in this set. I don't speak Japanese, but I seen the extras on here and I know what they are:
UPDATE 1: i found out that Phantasm II and III do NOT have a Japanese dub. I'm happy to report, that they have commentary! I'm not sure about IV. But I'll give y'all an update when I have the chance.
UPDATE 2: I've discovered that OblIVion DOES have the Commentary and no japanese dub!
Disc 1: Phantasm -English 5.1 Surround -English 5.1 DTS -Japanese 2.0 Surround -Audio Commentary (we can expect it's the same as in the other releases in US and UK -Japanese Subtitles (One for audio and signs, one ONLY for signs, and one for the commentary. Good news about this is that they ARE removable. As they are on the other discs.) -3 TV Spots -Theatrical Trailer -Phantasm II and III Theatrical Trailers -Phantasm IV Trailer (It's not like the one on R1 MGM, this is a very rare one! Some shots even have a time-code. Plus, all the trailers are the same on all films)
Disc 2: Phantasm Bonus Material -Phantasm: Behind The Scenes -Deleted Scenes -Phantasm: Actors Having A Ball -Introduction with Angus Scrimm -Phantasm '79 TV Interview -'88 Fangoria Commercial -'89 Angus Scrimm Convention Appearence -Japanese Subtitles (They ARE removable)
Disc 3: Phantasm II -English 5.1 Surround -English 5.1 DTS -Audio Commentary with Don Coscarelli, Reggie Bannister, and Angus Scrimm -Japanese Subtitles (One for audio and signs and one for the commentary) -3 TV Spots -Theatrical Trailer -Trailers for Phantasm I, III, and IV
Disc 4: Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead -English 5.1 Surround -English 5.1 DTS -Audio Commentary with Michael Baldwin and Angus Scrimm -Japanese Subtitles (One for audio and signs and one for the commentary) -Phantasm III: Behind-The-Scenes -Deleted Scene -Theatrical Trailer -Trailers for Phantasm I, II, and IV
Disc 5: Phantasm: OblIVion -English 5.1 Surround -English 5.1 DTS -Audio Commentary with Don Coscarelli, Reggie Bannister, and Angus Scrimm -Japanese Subtitles (One for audio and signs and one for the commentary) -Phantasm IV: Behind-The-Scenes (This is completely NEW!) -Theatrical Trailer -Trailers for Phantasm I - III
Disc 6: Phantasm: Box Special Disc -Phantasmagoria Documentary (The WHOLE thing! Like in the UK Set) -Phantasm: Geneseis -Greg Nicotero: The Gory Days -Phantasmagorical Mystery Tour (A.K.A. Reggie's Phantastic Tour) -Phandom -'93 Angus Scrimm Fangoria Weekend Of Horrors Convention Appearence -Japanese Subtitles (They ARE Removable)
This set also comes with a reprint of the original Japanese booklet that used to promote Phantasm in '79 in Japan.
I recommend that you buy this set and say goodbye to your R2 Sphere Set. But do keep R2 II and IV since they include the commentary. This has been my 2 cents.

It's a cool looking set & all but it's listed as $133.00 on that site. There's no way I'm paying that, especially since I'm extremely content with my Sphere set.
The set does look good though. If I could get it for around the price I paid for my Sphere set($40 brand new), I'd get it. Other than that, pass.

Nice animation, postmortem! Looks like ol' Tally's puting a some kind of spell or curse on Michael! Too bad no one will ever see the deleted scene that takes place one day after this one, where Michael wakes up as a woman.

Actually, it was fellow forum member BCG1969 who created this fine animation!
But I'll gladly take credit for his and any other work you're willing to attribute to me!

And let me tell ya, the box set is freakin' AWESOME!! The question is: Is this amazing release a "proper" product? Which company produced it I'm wondering if it's the OFFICIAL Japanese release. The artwork is too cool to be true.

I'm not sure. But I do know the video transfers of Phantasm I and III are the same as the AB R1 Releases. It's possible the transfers of II an IV are the same as the AB UK Set. The only thing is that Phantasm II regains the opening Universal Studios Logo (pre-1990) that was shown before the film began and that Phantasm I-IV are in NTSC (Both of which are good.). Now, if Universal hears about that the Japan DVD is in NTSC format, we could have a US Phantasm II DVD in no time! All and all the Japan box set kicks ass! I think every fan should buy this!

WONDERING if Anchor Bay licensed the company behind the Japanese box-set. So, in a way, that is an Anchor Bay edition... only "disguised".

So it's NTSC but Region 2? How is that even possible?
I take it that you will need a hacked player to utilize this set?

NTSC is how the picture is displayed on the tv....region number is any number that the studio puts on the disc, think of it as a lock...also I think he was saying it was NTSC because someone above wrote that, it is region 2 though
