Sorry if this has already been covered.......While watching PHANTASM II the other day I could not keep from thinking (THE WHOLE TIME) how bad it sux that A. Michael Baldwin was M.I.A.. in this one. Gosh that really bugs me!..... Then I got to thinking, "thank goodness TheRegMan was there to save the film" !!!! What would it have been without him? (a waste of time is what) Can you imagine if they had gotten another guy to play Reg? Its completely unimaginable to me! Im just so glad it didnt happen!

they told Don that he could only have one back for Phantasm II or no money to make it so he went for Reggie

I can't imagine anyone else as Reggie. No one at all. I liked James LeGros as Mike but I still prefer Michael Baldwin in that role. I wish he could've been in Phantasm II because it'd be interesting to see him wielding that flamethrower.

I honestly could not see anyone else playing Reg. It's hard to imagine seeing someone else. As for LeGros, in my opinion, he played an ok Mike, but Michael would probably have performed a better Mike.

Just think if Brad Pitt won the role over James LeGros. Now that would've been odd. I really don't mind Pitt that much but I don't think he's anything to write home about. I can't picture him as Mike at all.

I was thinking about Pitt vs LeGros myself. I never really got the whole Pitt movement. Hes ok and everything but I dont see how he got as big as he is. He isnt a good actor in my opinion. Every part hes Brad Pitt. No mater what the part, he acts like Brad Pitt. No acting to it, hes just Brad Pitt and the role hes going to play is Brad Pitt. He never "becomes" the character, the character becomes Brad Pitt

I thought James LeGros did an "all right" job playing a teenage Mike. I guess the studio gave the director a choice between Mike and Reggie, and the director had to pick Reggie since replacing Mike would make more sense. I feel really bad Baldwin didn't come back for the sequel since the movie itself is very good. I think it would of been better using the same actor so you could watch this character grow up through the films. Also James was a bit too much of a pretty boy for the character. But hey, whatever. I still would of loved to see Baldwin through.

Nothing against you Mrs LeGross, or James himself for that matter, but sheesh...Mike has to be played by Mike.

Quite frankly, PHANTASM II is a great movie, despite its flaws... I still think the big budget somehow ruins the whole experience BUT... Baldwin is good at playing an adult, suffering Mike, LeGros looks so young and innocent! Maybe it's good that LeGros plays an "easy" Mike whetever Baldwin plays a desperate, burned-out Mike.

I think James LeGros is an alright replacement, taking into consideration how much time had passed. James LeGros's Mike is tough, masculine and a bit hot headed at times. It's a realistic progression in some ways. Young Mike was just like that at times. But Baldwin's adult Mike doesn't show any of these traits really. He actually seems kindof sensitive and vulnerable by comparison, though still somewhat tough. I can't really see him wielding a flamethrower with a cocky smirk either.

James LeGros did a d**n fine job playing Mike, I think. I enjoy Phantasm II as much as all of the other flicks in the series.
When you think about it...hell, anyone (theoretically) could've taken that part, and there are so many ways it could've been wrecked. Over-acted, under-acted, non-acted...there are so many ways that character could've been ruined in the second movie.
But LeGros stepped in and did a bang-up job.

Just think...if Brad Pitt had gotton the role in Phantasm II, I bet Universal would have released a Region 1 dvd of the film by now...lol I liked Legros in P2, but was very happy to see Baldwin return in P3. I do think the character portrayed by Legros and the one portrayed by Baldwin almost as two different ones. It messes with the flow of the films together. In 2, Michael is loaded for bear going after the Tall Man. But in 3 he became sort of lethargic. But then, he started undergoing a transformation of sorts in 3 as well, so it's a tough comparison to make. We never got to see Baldwin in P2, so we don't know how he would have come across in it.

I agree if Pitt had been in it then we probably would have a U.S. release by now.
That being said I never had any problems with LeGros playing Mike in P2 either because I saw P2 before any others of it just never bothered me that much.
