I can't believe there's not a thread devoted to our young pal Tim yet!
So what is everyone's take on the boy? An annoyance? An awesome character? A reference to young Mike? And what about his demise?

Tim, Tim, Tim.... I like what Dustin and John Klyza were discussing on the podcast *COUGH* can't wait till #5 gets posted *COUGH* Sorry about that, my Cola must have gone down the wrong tube. I think that Tim was a mistake for P3. Not that Tim should not have been in the film but more that he was inconsistent in his role in the film and the whole corelation to Mike didn't really produce anything besides aggrivation. P3 came out when I was about 11 years old (I first saw P2 at the tender age of 5), and I had a pretty strong connection to Tim. I loved the idea of someone my age being involved in the storyline. Now that I'm older I look back somewhat fondly on the character but I tend to grimace at some of the scenes. One scene I love is when Reg is fighting off a sphere in the mauso after Rocky's friend just got drained. The next thing you know the sphere gets a bite of lead and little Tim comes strolling with his .357 like a bad a**.
One thing I really can't stand about the beginning of P4 is that there is no reference to Tim. Some have said that it is implied with Reggie's appearance but I still hunger for the closure. It almost seems like he and Rocky were thrown into P3 to give Reg something to do. Kind of like Jennifer and the cop from P4. I think that Tim's character deserved more development on a emotional and physical level. I do have to say that even with all of the issues concerning Tim, Don got it right when he had him pulled through the window. I almost look at that part like it is telling us that the future Phantasm(s) would be a throwback to the more neurotic ideas.
Sorry for the ramble.

he is ok as a character. the one i never really cared for is Rocky. she looked fine but her speech seemed faked and forced to me at times in the film. she didn't seem genuine to me. i agree Tim's character should have been developed more.

I like Tim. A valuable character to the series(and d**n good with a gun). I was around Tim's age or so when Phantasm III came out so I took a liking to his character because I wanted to hang out with Reg & shoot guns.

I thought Tim was a great character, a not-even pre-teen who needs to carry a gun and razor-frisbee to defend himself fits in just fine with the Phantasm universe, and seeing him and Rocky as other "normal people" besides Reggie having to fight the tall man with what little they have was a great asset to the increasingly apocalyptic P3. The massacre of the three bandits is the scene from Phantasm 3 that sticks out the most in my mind. I don't think Tim was a direct reference to Mike, but Reggie still found similarities between the two which led him to respect the kid. Sadly I think he definately perished at the end of P3, he was an annoyance to the Tall Man and too small to survive the dwarfing process.

Tim is probably my favorite Tag Along Character of the entire series, I loved the entire scene where the bandits broke into his house and he used Home Alone style techniques to take them out, And I think Don made Tim alot like Young Mike for a reason, One thing that sticks out in everyones mind about the original Phantasm is young Mike doing all of these cool things like shooting guns, driving cars, and chopping off the Tallmans fingers, and it was just a kid doing all of these things, So I think Don wanted another strong kid character back in the series and also I think that is why Reg connects with Tim so much in III, I also kinda like the fact that what happened to Tim in III was never explained at the beginning of Oblivion it adds another mystery to the list of other mysterys and questions that this film franchise has brought up, Some things are better left unanswered.

Ewwww Tim *hack hack hack* He was extremely annoying no doubt about it in my opinion. It is why I can only watch LOD every now and then. If I was Reg I would not have never gave him the keys to the Cuda. When it came to "you owe me two" I would have beat the heck out of him and left him for the Tall Man I'm sorry. I wouldn't be able to put up with him if he was my kid! That's my 2 cent imput on that sorry if it was harsh for you Tim lovers. ;D

My 2 cents:
FINALLY, someone gave us a cruel, ruthless and bloody ass-kicking cinematic version of a child, and that "someone" is COSCARELLI. Cut the crap, this is not 'Home Alone', 'Goonies' or, even worse, a Michael Jackson vid.
Coscarelli gave us TIM, the only child in movie history to kick some serious ass.
Apart Rocky, he is the true, smart innovation/trick of Phantasm III.

Coscarelli gave us TIM, the only child in movie history to kick some serious ass. The things he did in P3 are not far off of Mike in P1. Slicing off Tally's fingers, shotgun shell to the door, driving while Jody is shooting, etc, etc. The only scenes that Tim is really a bad ass is with the invaders and the .357 scene in the mauso. I think Mike in P1 out does him. Mike just lost his parents, is losing Jody and now he has to deal with this tall dude and his minions. Talk about overwhelmed.

Postmortem, (Kristen? ) You got the point. That's why Tim isn't "politically correct". He is so similar to the new generations, yes, the children of this technology-ruled era... those born from 1985 'til 1998, just ten years ago. They are scary. They have a strange, "cold" relationship with violence. It's like Don is putting a specific message behind the movie, you know. That's my view. From this perspective, P3 is ahead of its time, too.

A Mike-style character I don't mind, but some of Tim's feats were too much, mainly the ridiculous accuracy with his self-made throwing weapons.

Well in another movie it would be, but I didn't like it in Phantasm. I have an easier time accepting all the sci fi and fantasy things, like the dead being brought back, interdimensional gateways and flying balls of death, than I do Tim being able to kill three ruthless adult criminals with weird homemade weapons. Mike was smart and resourceful in a realistic way, I think, Tim was just over the top.

A lot of things in P3 were over the top. Coscarelli was right when he said that most people didn't like it at first because it was too funny, but have come to accept it as part of the series. I was one of those people.

I can agree with that . I didn't care too much for P3 due to the comedy aspect but even though it's still my least fav or the series I've come to accept it.
