Hacking a DVD player(if it's hackable) is as easy as pooping. The region 2 Phantasm II disc solves everything. Or spending $10-$20 on a Phantasm II VHS tape.

My advice (as said in many posts before): Write letters to Universal telling them either release Phantasm II on DVD or give the rights to Anchor Bay. But my second advice: If we're lucky and patient, we MIGHT see a DVD release of Phantasm II from either Universal or Anchor Bay next year. A good source to find out when or will dvds will come out is dvdactive.com. For those who want the address to contact Universal Home Entertainment is here:
Universal Home Entertainment 100 Universal City Plaza Universal City, CA 91608
EDIT: I have now added the phone number so you can contact Universal Home Entertainment:
818-777-1000

I have finally hacked my player (it really is as easy as everyone says)...and received my region 2 Phantasm 2 disc just yesterday. Alll I can say is it really doesn't solve everything. The quality of the print sucks, pretty grainy (looks like it was recorded off of tv or something), it's supposed to be widescreen but it's full-frame, clearly region 2 doesn't have the level of quality that our region does (and yes, it is a legitimate copy from Anchor Bay). It will do for now...but I still want a Region 1 Phantasm 2 from Universal or Anchor Bay. Thank God I ordered just P2 for now...I will probably avoid ordering the Sphere Set at this point...because the quality is so poor on this DVD

Don't let people talk you into anything you feel strongly against . You had valid points. I feel pissed for ya. I'm just wondering if yours is a unique problem. Interested in others feed back.

Can't scan it...but here is the version I purchased that sucks. Just go to amazon.co.uk do a DVD search for Phantasm... It's the Third result... Phantasm II, Anchor Bay...2006! I'm not kidding...it's not the Digital Entertainment version...it's the Anchor Bay 2006 version...
I honestly just kept shaking my head and looking at the box, thinking "I can't believe this is from Anchor Bay?".
Would you like some salt and pepper to go with those words you're going to be eating?

^ that sucks as i love the dvd version in the digipack. probably the same one but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. what may look/sound great to me might not look/sound great to you. don't lose hope, even though i bought the uk set i still want to see a region 1 version as much as anybody.

Trust me, it's not the same one that you have. This is pretty cruddy quality. The question is...do I risk more money for a potential piece of crap that's not worthy of the film itself? Do I take my chances and get the digipak or the sphere set? Or do I continue to twiddle my thumbs until Region 1 sees a release from Universal or Anchor Bay? And just stick with the crappy version I just got.

PS
Why doesn't anyone ever smite me here? I've never been smited nor here nor on Sphere Wars. I can be an @ss sometiems. I fully admit to that. Go look on the IMDB. And I don't delete posts to try and hide it either. I own up to my @ssage. That didn't make any sense.
Speaking of smiting, anyone have a look at phucko's profile lately? Muahahaha.

Well Thank God... I thought "this guy must really hate me"...at least that's what it was feeling like. I'm breathing again...
As for the "ignorance" comment. I will agree to disagree.
Ignorance, by it's very definition, means to "ignore" something. To base your feelings on one experience, despite other good ones...than that is "to ignore something" and is ignorance. But when your only experience is ONE, and you truly have no other similar experience to base it on, it colors your perception of that thing until you have a better experience to show you that "they're not all like that"...and that is only human.
I never made the "period" comment so I don't know what to say to that one. I think the last time it was made that it was directed at me, so no worries. That was just me trying to make a joke in the midst of chaos...
All is well.

The R2 quality will be hard to beat if we're talking the film transfer itself. Because R2 uses PAL, which has more lines of resolution than NTSC does.

Seems to me like you did knock it because of the quality of the current DVD. They're unrelated. You said that Region 2 doesn't have the quality that Region 1 does based on one disc. That assumption is indeed ignorant. I never said you were - simply that the statement was if that was what you were inferring. I stand by this. You can't judge an entire region based on one shoddy disc. I've heard tale that the 2000 release is the only legit R2 release to be bad and that the Anchor Bays are quite good. I must be misinformed. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong. I argue (ahem, discuss as many say) heatedly so don't be offedned. That's just me. Like I said, I've simply heard from multiple (not a ton, but more than a few) phans that the Anchor Bay R2s are great and widescreen. I thought it was your fault for getting the Digital Entertainment one because your description fit that release perfectly. If you don't have that release, then I'm wrong but again, it sounds just like it. I'll always argue that the R2 sphere set is great and that importing it isn't that bad of a thing. That's just how I feel and I feel it strongly. I never made the "period" comment so I don't know what to say to that one. I think the last time it was made that it was directed at me, so no worries. Yeah, I'm an arrogant @ss. Nothing new. Sorry you've been attacked twice here but look around and see it doesn't happen often. Hardly ever, really. I'm going to investigate this and come back to the thread but right now I'm fully open to the fact that I may be wrong. And actually I take my words with a bit of ranch, Dad. I must insist that I did not knock the sphere set, I simply said I wouldn't be buying based on my P2 disc...and in my mind, they are related. They are both Anchor Bay releases...I am just so stunned by the poor quality of the disc, I just figured that Anchor Bay region 2 somehow had a different standard for quality than region 1... I mean, I've seen worse...but the quality is soooo not on par with typical Region 1 Anchor Bay releases. All I can say is you should order it for yourself and you'll see what I mean. It's grainy...looks kind of like an old video tape...and is not widescreen (I'm a widescreen junkie). It's shockingly poor for Anchor Bay. And I can deal with alot...and this will have to do I guess until Region 1 comes out...but God, how frustrating.
