Does anyone else think that there might be more to what the fortuneteller had to say to Mike when he visits her? I'm specifically referring to the line where the granddaughter says something about how if Jody decides to leave, he'll take Mike with him. That line always struck me as odd or important. I think there's more to this, especially since we learn later on in the series that the fortuneteller is closely related to the Tall Man.
Does anyone else think this? What could it possibly mean?

From the first time I saw it , it struck me as both odd and possibly important. But it didnt seem to go anywhere or mean anything in P1 that I could pick up on cuzz nothing seemed to come of it. I still wonder about it?

i figured that just meant if Jody left to travel he would take mike along. remember the guy that came along asking Jody how he could stand being in the town after getting a taste of the road. which i figured meant touring/playing guitar.

See, I initially figured that's all it meant as well. But I think that maybe there is some sort of double meaning. Then again I could be off my rocker and just be trying to find something where nothing is.

For me, those words "He'll take you with him" always felt like a chilled breeze had just blown through the room. I always felt it meant that it meant Jody would die, and he'd be sure to "take" Mike too. They'd both go to the valley of death--or something much worse--together. Just my overactive imagination, right? Yet, the way the prediction is made sounded anything but reassuring to me. And now, with four movies under our belts, Jody did come back to "get" Mike, no...?

Yes! See, this is exactly what I'm trying to say! I'm glad I'm not the only person to have thought about this scene this way. Great wording, Kristen.

Gopherman...that's an awesome question. Being that Phantasm I is my phav in the series (although I love em all)...I seen it 100's of times. Wore out my VHS tape of it, now own it on DVD. I NEVER caught that. Now I replayed the scene, and not to overhype your question, but I think this is quite possibly the twist to the entire plot. I also have the novelization of the movie by Don's mom, which has more in depth about Jodi and Mike's relationship, which I wish had made it into the movie.
