It's quite obvious that P1 contained a lot of R&D work for the subsequent films. Some of the oddities (not sure what else to call them) in P1 kind of hit a wierd nerve with me. A few that come to mind have to do with Tommy. At his graveside service Tally picks up the casket. When you look at the back of the casket it is flush and has wires going up to the casket spray. I understand that it probably had to look like this so that Angus could wrap his arms about the thing, but it kind of bugs me. Another thing is the Dwarf Tommy. Why is the Dwarf version of Tommy so human like? In later films we see that the Dwarfs are very alien and grotesque. The T-Dwarf has his fu-man-chu and all, kinda wierd.
Any other things that bother you guys/gals?
I don't intend to make this sound like it takes away from the film, Phantasm I is still the godfather.

I totally get what you're saying about Tommy. His dwarfness is very much unlike the the dwarfs... and it always kinda made me wonder.

These things have to do with the small budget of the original, I guess with Phantasm 2 and so on Don was able to show his true vision of what the Dwarves look like, But in the original I guess he simply didnt have the money to do elaborate make up on the Tommy Dwarf.

I dunno if you'd count this but in Oblivion you do in fact see another kid the day the Tall Man shows up. He is with his dog on the side of the road as Mike and Jody drive by. The Tall Man then proceeds to run over the dog.

Yeah the first time I saw that scene I was just like did I just see that happen. I do think it really shows you though how evil the Tall Man is because he didn't show any emotion at all when you hear him hit that dog.

I was too fond of that scene but it did show how evil the Tall Man is/was, like 4BH stated.
