Here's my take on the new Oblivion release:
Gripe: Lack of slipcase.
Likes/Pros: The transfer is magjificent, very clean, crisp and clear. If you have doubts of that, check out the scene with the unknown "being" in the tall grass. Even though I am not watching this on an upconverter or a HD television, I have to say that this is the nicest picture from all of the films. The commentary is a great watch/listen. If makes you feel like you are sitting at a bar chatting up Phantasm, very fun. A certain someones that post on this forum get some nice shout outs from the guys during the commentary. The behind the scenes footage is wonderful. AB does it right by allowing you to see the scene from a crew members point of view, and then showing the finished product. Very cool. As Dustin said, the 3D menus is a nice touch. This is probably my favoriite AB R1 release, not only because it's probably the best of the series, but because it was done correctly. MGM people should buy this and realize how they messed up. Enjoy this one Phans!

Haha tell me about it. When I get the new DVD, this will be my fourth different version of OblIVion. I have five copies of Phantasm & two copies of Phantasm II & Phantasm III. What other versions on OblIVion do you have?

Purchased it yesterday. Mine has the Demon Trooper and Reggie on the cover though. The behind the scenes was pretty cool, gotta love the footage of Mike, Reggie and Jody singing and playing! I'm about to watch the whole film, but it does indeed look a lot crisper! I'll get to the commentary soon. Does anyone know when it was recorded?

Got mine the other day. I've been suffering with a dubbed VHS version of P4 for about 10 years now.
Holy crap. What a difference.
It seems like a brand new film to me now, even on my tube tv set. With the new audio/video transfer,I was under the illusion that the beginning of P4 was re edited and scored. I was also amazed that the balls (silver) on Reggie were not CGI, but organic special effects. The menus rock too.
Looking forward to the commentary.
This really solidifies my opinion that OblIVion is the 2nd best out of the series.

The reviews at DVD Verdisct and Bloody-Disgusting I think give the best reviews. Yeah, they are a little negative but both reviewers are fans and what they have to say does make sense. I can't wait to get the DVD, even if $15.99 at FYE (the only place I have seen it) seems a bit much. I was initally looking foward to the commentary until I found out it's more technical than anything else, and theres very little discussion of whats going on. I really hope they make one more movie.

The transfer is very nice. I just wish they would've included more than the 9 minutes of footage we got from Bob Ivy's documentary tape. I know first hand Bob shot almost as much VHS footage as I did on P4. I don't know why on earth they didn't include more! In fact, Anchor Bay has transfers of my 3 hr footage from the P4 shoot that were used for the UK ball set. They could've used more of mine and Bob's combined. Oh well, maybe the next release, whatever that may be.
