Does anyone think that the Sci-Fi channel would be interested in picking up P5? WIth the way they are making flicks, I'm surprised that it hasn't come up.

Eh, it would be a poopy CGI film.
And it would be titled Phantasm 5: Balls To The Wall or something like that.
It's unfortunate too, because they'd probably love to get their hands on something like a Phantasm movie.

(smirk) Phantasm V: CGI Sharks That Shoot Bees Out of Their Mouths Hands down, the funniest thing I've heard all day. Thanks, Chris! Though, seriously, I doubt that Don Coscarelli would ever let the Sci-Fi Channel get ahold of the series. I mean, did you see what they did to Beyond Re-Animator? YEEEEESH.

Haha thanks although the part out bees being shot out of the sharks' mouth was lifted from The Simpsons. Homer talked about dogs that shoot bees out of their mouths when they bark.
I liked Beyond Re-Animator. Teehee!

I wouldn't like it if Sci-Fi did it. I mean, I like Sci-Fi and all that, I even had the nickname "Sci-Fi Sister" for a short while, but like what Tony said, it would be a very cheesy CGI film. Shoot, look what they did to Tremors! They had a Tremors series going on for a short time and they were completely horrible.

There's no doubt that they would love to get ahold of a Phantasm installment.
Haven't they done some Pumpkinhead flicks? If so, I love them. While they are kind of cheap looking, they are decent quality compared to other made for TV films.

The only Pumpkinhead film I liked was the first one. I saw, I think it was, "Blood Wings" (?) and heard there are more. After I saw Blood Wings, I was like "no, I think I'll end it here." The first, as usual, is always the best.

I like them all. Decent horror flicks considering the source.

The first one is actually a pretty rad 1980s horror movie. Lance Henriksen is a great actor. I need to pick up the new special edition DVD.
The second one is great cheesy early 1990s fun. I love movies like that.
I haven't seen the more recent sequels yet.

My cable TV provider took away Sci Fi Channel, so now I can't fall asleep to Twilight Zone and X-Files!!
It's horse s**t...
And with Sci-fi, they need to stop making their own movies and playing the classics!!
They totally took a dump on the Puppetmaster movies.
Sci-Fi needs to give it up.
They also stopped airing MST3K!!
F THEM!!

I wouldn't mind it.
No, wait, put the pitchforks and torches down. Hear me out.
The Sci-Fi channel doesn't make terrible movies. The directors they hire make terrible films with the budget they are provided. Coscarelli on the other hand has the talent to make a good film and the experience and creativity to do so on a less-than-stellar budget.
Assuming he negotiates a good contract giving him full creative control to keep the producers in check this could be a great way to get the film made. The budget might cause a few bad-looking CGI effects here and there, but it's nothing we haven't already learned to forgive in P3 and P4. And I'll take P5 with some lame effects over no P5 at all.
Of course, my ultimate dream for the final film would be if it were to be financed by Troublemaker Studios. Rodriguez strikes me as a guy who would appreciate the series (Grindhouse anyone?) and he also runs very high quality production facilities and knows how to run them cheap. He's also proven himself to be respectful of source materials and other people's creative decisions, so he would be unlikely to interfere with Coscarelli's direction. Maybe we should start writing him!

In all honestly, I think the Sci-Fi channel would be Phantasm V's best bet. I really don't have anything against Sci-Fi (I like Chiller better, but they have released some pretty good movies and have pretty good ratings whenever it's a big sequel or something...via Pumpkinhead. I think if done right and having Don back it would do really well. If not it most likely will get a straight to DVD release. I always thought (speaking of Grindhouse above) that if they ever made a Grindhouse II that Phantasm V would be a great teaser trailer! I guess we'll see

I would just like to share with everyone that I just watched "Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys," a franchice film (though it was pretty stand alone) obviously made by the Sci Fi channel, and I was given clear insight as to what Phantasm V would be like if Sci-Fi made it. This is all I really have to say
NO
Oh god, this could have been a really cool movie but more than anything it was the effects and camera movement arount them that made it kinda poopy. Phantasm has always been practical, yes, but concedering there was little CG in this flick and most everything was physical and still looked like crap, what does that tell you?
And no, have yet to see any of the eight Puppet Master movies or the two Demonic Toys' escapades (any one have a verdict on them?), but i have seen clips and back in 1989 the puppets looked much better (and Blade's mouth moved), so how they can be this bad I don't know. Movie was ok though, I suppose if Don had full control and both Sci-Fi and Anchor Bay were involved it would be better than no Phantasm 5.

First couple of Pupper Master films are good in my opinion. Haven't watched any of them in ages though.

GREAT news!!! (regarding Puppet Master)
Full Moon has apparently uploaded most of their catalog onto youtube, including *all* eight Puppet Masters! (excluding Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, which was sadly made by Sci-Fi). I've watched the first two so far; I loved the first but was pretty disappointed with the second. I mean I loved the atmosphere and the puppet effects and the returning awesome score, but what they did with Andre Toulon's character/attitude I personally think ruined a lot of it. Would anyone say the DVD box set is worth the $90? at least 2 of the seven probobly suck but there are special features and despite a disappointing Part 2 it's shaping up to be a pretty cool series.

Okay,
Lemme lay it down as far as the Puppet Master series goes and before I start, just buy the boxset. You'll still be missing PM Legacy and PMvsDT, but you want the boxset. It has behind the scenes featurettes (old VideoZones) for all of the films and a bonus disc, a 45-trailer reel from Full Moon. Quite spiffy.
PM1 - Good, but not great. It's okay. PM2 - WEIRD. You're right. They take Andre Toulon in a strange direction here. It feels more like an homage to the Invisible Man. PM3 - Many feel this is the best of the series. Introduces the best actor as Andre Toulon and Six-Shooter. You have puppets vs. Nazis with the great Richard Lynch as the head nazi. PM4 - This one's pretty good too. PM5 - This one is basically a Coda to part 4. Not even it's own film. PM6 - This one is 'Curse'. It's pretty good too. PM7 - This one is 'Retro' and it SUCKS. Has serious continuity issues with previous films in the series. PM8 - This one is 'Legacy' and not in the boxset. It's like Phantasm Oblivion, kind of. Most of it is clips from older films, but there's a new story (maybe 15-20 min of the film) being told as well. Pm vs Demonitc Toys - This one is bad beyond belief and I could spend years listing why it's so bad. Corey Feldman makes it bearable. It's so bad it's kind of entertaining, but it loses more than half of the puppets (where'd they all go?), the puppetry is terrible, the music is miserable and the acting is poor.
I believe i heard they're about to go on location to shoot the latest sequel.

I would rather see Phantasm V backed by sci fi but higher budget DVD release..than on Scifi... but if our only option to see Phantasm V was on scifi... id rather see it , than not.
