I doubt it'll be much different from the normal AB DVD release aside from picture quality & whatnot.

I personally find this very exciting news. I still mainly watch/buy DVDs, but I've begun purchasing select titles on Blu-Ray, just to sort of slowly transition into the new format.
I will definitely buy the Blu-Ray release of Phantasm, and that link you provided also said that the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition is being considered. My 2 favorite horror movies of all time on Blu-Ray sound pretty d**n good to me!

I just read more from that link and apparently (if this is to be trusted), Anchor Bay is considering releasing a region 1 sphere set!

It will likely include I,III,and IV and maybe the Blu-ray disc. But, if Anchor Bay could just get Universal to include their disc in the set, then that would sell.

Hmm.....
Not sure how much I trust this message board. I remember being in Jersey last year and hearing talk of this R1 sphere set from the guys at the AB booth and what killed it was the absence of part II.
So until we hear further, I'd be cautious and consider this old news that's since been killed.
Cheers for a Phantasm Blu-Ray, however.

Great news, although in order to take advantage of it, is you need to have a blu ray player and HD tv to take full advantage of. That means shelling out big bucks for both of those. I'd love to see Phantasm in 3D. That would be awesome. Is it my dodgy memory or has it been show in 3D?

It was never shown in 3-D. And you know what? Since we're getting Phantasm II in the states, maybe we can get the full Phantasmagoria documentary for Phantasm's Blu-Ray release.

Wouldn't AB need Universal's consent or the rights to Phantasm II to use the Phantasm II footage shown in Phantasmagoria? If that's the case, I don't see it happening unless by some miracle Universal allows them to use it.
If people want to see Phantasmagoria that badly, they'll find ways to track it down.

True The Never Dead. But if AB got Universal's consent to use footage from Halloween II and III for the Halloween: 25 Years Of Terror Documentary, surely they can do the same for the Phantasm II footage for Phantasmagoria.

Actually, Universal didn't "consent" to anything. Studios just don't consent to their films being excerpted. It's a business. They were paid and paid well for the use of that footage. No doubt if Anchor Bay would pay the fee for excerpting from P2, Universal would go along with it. The question is... would that fee be cost-effective for a supplement on a Blu-Ray disc? The answer, I feel, is a very loud no.

I just hope if we ever get a region 1 release of Phantasmagoria that people will still want more & more!

While I am too financially inept to purchase the equipment required to utilize a Blu Ray disc, I would certainly purchase this if it comes to fruition.

I 2nd OblivionGoon's sentiment to an extent, if this is true it could be the first Blu-Ray I will be tempted to get enough to switch for

The Blu Ray sounds appealing even though I don't have a player for it yet. That's never stopped me though. As far as a R1 Sphere set I don't see a point in it since P2 is being released and there is already a R2 Sphere set.
