www.bloody-disgusting.com/review/4340Fair review in my humble opinion. I would've been much harsher. ;D His description of Showcase Cinemas was right on the ball too. I liked that "maze" "white tile" feeling.

Well, I obviously disagree with him that part III and IV are inferior to II. Also, he complains about the lack of that surreal, dreamlike feeling that the first film had. I agree, but I'm guessing he hasn't done his homework to know that it was Universal that demanded cuts of all the dreamy stuff that was originally in the workprint version.
As the years go on, I like Phantasm II less than the other sequels, just because it's obvious that Coscarelli had to make so many concessions to Universal. Part II definitely feels like the most mainstream and corporate Phantasm movie.
Pretty lame review really but thanks for the link.

I agree Hemicuda.
As you pointed out, a lot of people who review movies simply do so at face value. At first, Phantasm III was a sore thumb for me, but over the years my love for it has grown. With part 4 I was in high school when it came out and there was a great deal that I really didn't understand, but I still loved it for being a Phantasm film. Now some 11 years later, my love for that film is neverending. It's a perfect showcase for what can be done for $600K and still be great.
