Hi all,
Sorry if this question has already been posted. I know we've all heard about the similarities between the Jawa's from STAR WARS and the dwarves from PHANTASM. However, as I was watching PH-4 the other day, I noticed another quick similarity; there appeared to be a "sand person" in one shot. Mike is in the desert, walking through the rocks. He turns and sees several quick glimpses of dwarves. Then, as he walks by one large rock formation, we see what looks to be a sand person in the background. It's a very quick shot and even though I paused and zoomed, I'm still not sure what it was.
Anyone have an idea?

Are you talking about this? I'm not sure myself. I thought at first it was one of those gravers.

Your screen grab looks a lot clearer than what I was zooming in on! I recorded it off Chiller. I think you're right, it does look like one of the grave diggers. From your grab I can clearly see the gas mask.
Thanks for the help!

I might be wrong. Actually it's not as clear as I thought it would be. I think it's a gas mask. But on my TV it looked like I saw his teeth.

LOL wen I first saw it I was mad as hell - I thought it was the shadow of a cameraman~! (I think I was watching it super late at night, and very drunk). However, next time I saw the film, I also came to the "Graver" conclusion. I believe there was one in P-II that walked past LIZ pushing a smoking coffin... complete with respirator.

Good eyes, phanfan! It is indeed a Graver, although I can see the similarities with a sand person.

Gravers in both films. In P2, the graver pushing the smoking coffin down the hall was Will Blount, our prop master. (Troy Fromin, a "Phantasm" fan and our craft services person, played another graver in the cemetery near the hearses). In P4, the graver lurking in the rocks was our stunt man, Bob Ivy. Both were wearing old fashioned gas masks/respirators.
