I think that whatever new Phantasm will be (a film?web-series? fmv game?) the kickstarter would be a prefect sollution for rising some additional founds.
There are many many phans all aurond the world, who would be gladly paricipate in kickstarter campaign for the new Phantasm.
The key thing is to annouce it early and then work on the buzz around it.

This seems more like a promising idea now as Don has mentioned in an interview that he wants to do V, but it must be difficult to finance the film in this climate.

It's very hard to believe that hollywood will finance 2 Unspectacular sequels of a 20 + years old movie such as Lost Boys 2 & 3, but not on more profitable sequel franchise such as Phantasm. If hollywood wonders why it is in trouble, they should check out the garbage they are financing a little more often...

Seriously, I would love to see amounts broken down into what areas are the most problematic. i.e.- could Coscarelli come up with the money for the actors, cameras, fx? Are there other areas that are just as big of a money issue, or is that the crux of the dilemma? How about "volunteers" behind the scenes, extras, places to film without permits having to be obtained? Would love to see some feedback on this...

Ralph Bakshi is using kickstarter to finish one of his films. I have no idea why Phantasm shouldn't use it either.

Just heard that they are making a Veronica Mars movie funded by the fans. They raised 2 million in 10 hours! If they can do it so can we! Lets do it guys!

Is it Don who has to start the kickstarter or can anybody do it?

I think P4 had such a poetic ending and while another sequel could easily top it visually, I am not so sure that it could pack the same emotional wallop. If what phans really want is a big-budget Phantasm then it's time to hit RESTART. I do think the material is ripe for a reimaging though with Don's blessing and guidance of course. Hell, he could even reboot it himself. I think starting from scratch would also allow him to get a budget for the project. What studio wants to finance a sequel to a cult series where the last sequel was 15 years ago and direct to video? Starting over would also allow Don to correct some of the wrongs of previous chapters too. Maybe we would get to keep the same actor for the entire series THIS time and maybe let Liz live and avoid Timmy and Rocky. Of course, he could create all new characters also. The possibilities are endless. I think it's time to let Michael, Reggie, Bill and Angus hang their hats and allow a new chapter of the Phantasm world to begin.

Now there is close to four million raised for the Veronica Mars movie.Phantasm v could easily be financed through Kickstarter.Don told me in Chattanooga he could do P-5 on a million,if he had it.People on his Facebook page are asking to use Kickstarter, but he remains silent on the matter.

He needs to get on this quick. And yes there NEEDS to be a part v. They could do a lot with a reboot but until Angus passes on, I don't even wanna think about it.

There doesn't need to be a "re-imagining." They were already going to do that, but Don pulled the plug because he's not a sell-out and didn't like the way it was going.
Edit: And I agree, raise the million bucks, and use it to finish filming principal photography.

Hat Tip to The Phantasm Archives Monday, September 28, 2015 Classy Coscarelli gently nixes Ravager Kickstarter [Update from the Chief Archivist: My posts on this topic were never a smear campaign against the individual who started this mess, but rather an effort to prevent phans from throwing their money at it. I was trying to stop it - and that goal has been met. I'll leave these posts up because this all did happen, but I'm removing the phan's name and details from this post.] Well, the whole fake Ravager Kickstarter thing got even weirder this morning and then came to an abrupt end this afternoon, but not before it had raised an astonishing $860 from naive phans. As it turned out, the campaign was neither a joke nor the effort of an internet troll. Its creator seems to have legitimately wanted to fund additional work on Phantasm V (insert Kevin Hart confused face here). Kickstarter impresario ------- updated his $15,000,000 campaign with the shocking clarification that he wasn't actually associated with anyone involved in the production of the new sequel. In an update, he wrote: "It has come to my attention that a number of blogs online are stating that this is Fradulent or a scam. To clarify, we are in fact not associated with the filmmakers in anyway, However this is still an honest effort to raise money for the film, by fans, and for the fans. The purpose for the funds, are as stated in this projects description. That is what it will be used for." ----- then created a new perk for his Kickstarter at the $75 donation level that awarded up to 50,000 funders BluRay copies of all five films - despite the fact that no such releases have even been announced yet, except in the case of Phantasm II which is already available on BluRay. News of this bizarre crowd funding venture spread out onto several other sites this morning before eventually catching the attention of Phantasm creator Don Coscarelli, who personally tweeted ---- requesting that he shut down the Kickstarter, which ----- then promptly did. You know, I've got to hand it to Coscarelli. Rather than his usual silent digital takedowns, the guy reached out to ------ on Twitter and with a very gentle voice and got what he wanted. Classy. Posted by The Chief Archivist at 12:30 PM Thats one of the reasons I respect Don Coscarelli. Phanboy aka WCJH
