Back in 2019, Don came to Portland, Oregon for a double feature of P1 & P2 at The Hollywood Theatre. I planned ahead with a question that hadn't really been covered in any interviews, commentaries, etc.
My best friend and I were sitting on a bench outside the theatre and we saw Don casually walking up the street. I waved and said: "Hey Don!" He instantly came over and began a conversation with us. There was something surreal about talking to him in Oregon, the state where Morningside and Perigord were located. We took a couple of photos in front of the marquee and then went inside the lobby.
While Done was autographing a photo of himself holding a sphere on the mausoleum set of P4 for me, I asked him my big question. I said: "Because the executives at Universal wouldn't let you cast Michael Baldwin for Phantasm II, did you kill Liz at the very beginning of Phantasm III to get back at them?"
He let out a big laugh and replied: "No, not really. I just thought her story had been told and it was a way to get the plot back on the guys."
After the screenings, my friend and I got to mingle with him a bit more. We spent a lot of time with him, talking not just about the movies but other things. He certainly was who he seemed to be in all the material I've seen and read about him. A very generous man that my friend and I owe countless hours of thought-provoking entertaining to.

That's a very cool anecdote. It's good to see that Coscarelli is the nice guy he seems to be on camera and in print.
