I've seen Phantasm III dozens of times over the years, but strangely last night while watching it I suddenly just liked it a lot more than I did before. Don't get me wrong, I've always loved every entry in the series, but for me Phantasm III just didn't resonate with me as much as the other three films.
It's difficult to explain without making it sound like I didn't like Phantasm III before. I loved it before, it's just now I love it even more... and out of nowhere.
And is it just me, or is the beginning of Phantasm III simply outstanding?

Believe it or not I still havent seen it. Thats a good thing in a way I guess. It gives me something to look foward to. I suouldnt say this as I havent seen it , but I cant help but feel that Im not going to be that into it from what I have picked up. With the lil kid and the black chick. Dont get me wrong i have nothing against kids of black folks, I just never have liked the comings and goings of random characters. I mean all they are mostly is cannon fodder for the camara, you know they will die or something like that. I know , Im old school , all I care about seeing is Reg, Mike , Jody and the Tall Man. Well at least it has the "true" cast in it unlike PII. But I am looking foward to seeing it and I hope I will enjoy it. But to me nothing can ever top PI !

And is it just me, or is the beginning of Phantasm III simply outstanding? It's not just you. I love the beginning very much....minus a certain person's death.

Of couse my fav will always be the original and next to that would have to be P4. As for P3 for the most part it was enjoyable and I have to admit I didn't mind Rocky or Tim. My kids on the other hand LOVE P3...the whole Zombie thing and Tim's funhouse. So in that aspect I guess it did it's job in attracting the younger generation cuz they always want to watch that one when I ask which of the movies to put in...

I thought the beginning was the best part of the entire movie. I loved how they edited part II within this film and seemed to perfectly fit Baldwin in as though he never left.

Sorry to bring up the dead...
I just watched P3 and it was like I was watching it as a kid again. I was able to grin at the gore scenes like I used to. Maybe I was just taking the film too serious, hell maybe I'm taking the whole series too serious. Feels good to step outside of the box again.

I have a friend who won't watch P3 because he just can't make it through it he thinks its that bad.
Kinda sucks because you can't have a Phantasmathon without P3 ;D

Whatever clicked with you I really wish would click with me; Phantasm III I just find to be a very frusterating film; while it's not bad enough to make it unwatchable theres just a lot about the movie I find hard to watch, from a certain characters fate at the beginning of the film to continuity, retconning, and jus tthe writing in general. Theres plenty about the film to like and I think if they had made it a bit more easy going it would have been more likeable. The beginning of the movie emulates a lot of Phantasm II's tone before becoming a buddy comedy; despite that it's where the majority of the film bears it's problems it was pretty well done, but I can't say it's my favorite part for those other reasons, so as a result my favorite part is probobly the motel scene with Reggie & Rocky I know, but c'mon! The vanilla line is one of the best in cinema!

And is it just me, or is the beginning of Phantasm III simply outstanding? The first 15 minutes and the last segment of the movie are great. But it's always felt to me like the middle is sort of a lull. I was never huge on Tim and the more "wacky" feel of part III. I like it, but it remains my least-favorite.

Part III is actually my girlfriend's favorite in the series and watching it again this past Sunday, I forgot how much great stuff is in it. So many awesome death-ball moments and action!

Phantasm III is easily the weakest of the four films for me. It's missing the freshness of the original, the pulse-pounding excitement of the second, and the sentimentality of the fourth. It does have some cool scenes, but overall it feels out of place. Phantasm III is the "Jan Brady" of the series.
