All of us want it to happen, but if there's no script or trailer announcement by this time next year, chances are part 5 will never be.

Listen man, I think we ALL would love to see a Phantasm V. I highly doubt anyone would be up in arms if it were announced. But we need to understand that the chances of this happening are unlikely. Very unlikely. I don't want to be the guy who rains on someone's parade, but it's the cold hard truth of things.

I just don't understand why it has been put off the way it has. Like Dustin stated there is more than one script and enough of a demand. Funding should not be an issue at all, since Don stated in an April 2007 interview with IGN.com that Anchor Bay Entertainment was very much interested in funding it; concedering now Phantasm I & III and I'm pretty sure the new Oblivion DVD have sold very well, I see no reason for them not to go into it, especially since it'll be a large step up from the crap they've been putting out lately. Phantasm's End I personally think is now an option give nthe circumstances but it's more than likely they'll use Romano's script. And if anyone know how to get the image in my signiture to appeare please tell me

You need to put a / infront of the second image i.e. [/image] Thanks, I really appriciate it. But there has to be something else I'm doing wrong. If you don't mind replying back I added the / to the second [image] but still nothing. Take a look at the sig and lemme know if theres anything I'm not doing. EDIT: Dustin fixed it sent me an e-mail citing what I was doing wrong (apparently it's instead of [image]). Thanks anyway

Doesn't mean it can't come together again soon, though. I know Don is looking to prep John Dies at the End right now, but if the money materialised I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to do P5. We can't lose faith now.

I won't, but I do see this as a horribly maddening setback.

I think it's rather safe to say that we're gonna be trapped in this waiting room for forever; I can garantee that they'll actually make a movie about a guy trapped in a waiting room before they do Phantasm 5.

... I can garantee that they'll actually make a movie about a guy trapped in a waiting room before they do Phantasm 5. This made me burst out laughing! First thing that popped into my mind was David Bowie in the waiting room, aging rapidly before our eyes, having flashbacks from a lifetime in "The Hunger." I have mixed feelings about P4 as a conclusion. I love it because it takes us full circle to Mike and Reg in their youth--how I came to know them and love them back in 1979. And because it ends with the Tall Man looking pretty terrific, going out a winner (albeit a little sad, I think, that the game is over). The other part of me feels that the whole mystery of the Tall Man's planet, and what's become of Jeb, Reg and Mike (as a sphere) has been left open. I love a good mystery, and I love attempting to answer these questions on my own. Yet there is a missing sense of closure here. Finally, would I like the answers of P5? To finally answer questions about who/what the Tall Man is would mean probably having to side with one answer... Is he Death personified, an alien from another dimension, or merely a coping fantasy of a grieving boy? There just doesn't seem a tidy way to make the Tall Man all three of these things. And I'm not sure I would want to see him categorized. The beauty of the Tall Man is in NOT quite knowing the answer... The same with the Tall Man's planet... is it Hell, or a transitionary zone to another afterlife/plane of existence, another planet, another dimension (of perhaps a future Earth), or just a nightmare? Again, to label it as just one of these things would take away some of the magic and mystery.

Does anyone else think of the end of P4 as a defeat for the Tall Man? I may have said something about this elsewhere on the forums, but here's my theory anyway, in timeline form to make it easier to understand: Early 19th Century - - Jebediah Morningside, a mortician, develops an interest in philosophy and the natural sciences. Becomes fascinated with the nature of reality, time and space.
- Begins performing simple experiments involving sonic waves and vibrations.
- Possibly comes into unwitting contact with some kind of extraterrestrial or pan-dimensional intelligence which helps guide his hand towards creating the first spacegate.
- First time-traveller comes through the spacegate (Mike).
- Around this time, (we'll call this EVENT ZERO) Jebediah Morningside passes through the spacegate and (we'll call this EVENT ONE) returns as the Tall Man.
1861โ1865 - - American Civil War. The Tall Man posing as Jebediah Morningside works as a mortician in the Civil War, experimenting on dead bodies and perfecting his resurrection techniques.
1978 - - Tall Man resurfaces in Morningside in the late 20th century. Encounters a setback when he comes into contact with young Mike.
1988 - 1994 (?) - - Tall Man continues wrapping up small towns and proceeds to turns a large swathe of California into a land of ghost towns.
- Continues to battle Mike and Reggie across time and space.
1994 (?) - - The Tall Man is killed in a confrontation with Mike (EVENT TWO), whom he has granted Tall Man-like powers (or had them anyway).
- Jebediah Morningside arrives from EVENT ZERO in a strange trance and proceeds to harvest a sphere from Mike's head. Now for EVENT THREE - in which Jebediah returns through the gate to EVENT ONE, becoming the Tall Man under the power of the Mike sphere.
NOW, the Tall Man's entire existence is trapped in a kind of feedback loop between EVENT ZERO and EVENT THREE - i.e. he is born at EVENT ONE, defeated at EVENT TWO and EVENT THREE sends him back to event one all over again. Therefore, no Tall Man is active in the timeline beyond EVENT THREE. Ergo - Reggie and Mike have won by default.

I love a good discussion... ;D You had me nodding along, agreeing, until this: [/li][li]Jebediah Morningside arrives from EVENT ZERO in a strange trance and proceeds to harvest a sphere from Mike's head. [/quote] Though I feel it is very important that Jebediah return and that he (alone) is the key to destroying the Tall Man, to date Jeb has never returned. It is the Tall Man, not Jeb, that says, "You have found your way back..." and then operates on Mike. And as Jody says, "Jebediah Morningside never does come back." Were Jebediah to return, he would be in a very deteriorated state and, I suspect, still attired in 19th Century garb. I also think he would have no cause to menace Mike. Instead, Jeb would want to ally himself with the Pearson brothers ASAP. Thoughts?

That actually sounds really awesome, Kristen! I really dig the idea of having Jeb Morningside fight along with our heroes to take down the Tall Man. Get on that screenplay ASAP!

In my theory, Jebediah was under the control of the sphere in Mike's head, hence why he operated on Mike and removed it. However, I forgot about the dialogue and yes... that does seem to be Tally for sure. So what if Jeb entered the spacegate, went to the Red Planet and was transformed by the powers that be into a malevolent minion of theirs, and then travelled to death valley circa 1994, got the sphere from Mike, and returned to the 19th century? Does that still work, or am I reaching too much?

You're not reaching. I love it when fans try to puzzle out the world of Phantasm. There are no "correct" answers. It'd be interesting to hear what other forum members think. In my timeline, were I to create one, the Tall Man would have been working behind the scenes at Morningside the entire time. And probably with the fortuneteller... But this conflicts with the "new" flashback in P4 of the Tall Man showing up in town (probably for the first time), driving a hearse (and running over the dog) circa 1978.

I'd suppose he's probably been elsewhere, doing the same thing, before returning to Morningside (possibly due to Mike's coming of age). It's possible that - since Morningside is still a surviving, thriving town (at least until the start of P2 when we last see it) - the Tall Man was defeated or driven out of the town in the 19th century, or left of his own accord. It's also possible (and fits with my theory), that the Tall Man travelled directly from the 19th century to the late 20th via his spacegate, to give the town a chance to "regrow" after his first harvest of the town.
