NewsflashThe next issue of HorrorHound magazine, issue seventeen, will feature a large historical retrospective on Phantasm. Your very first look (it's not even on the HH site yet, I don't think) at their custom cover is below. The historical retrospective was written by yours truly and the issue contains three special bonuses, an interview with Don Coscarelli, a revealing (!) look at the five infamous unmade Phantasm sequels and an installment of Sean Clark's Horror's Hallowed Grounds, Phantasm style. Guy Thorpe (among others) contributed a host of rare collectible photographs and our very own Kristen Deem lent her editorial skills to the piece. When you read it, do take it easy on your Chief Archivist for the quality of the article. The actual writing of the piece was very rushed and looking over it now, goodness, it certainly could've benefitted from an extra few days worth of revising. But as it stands, it's not a bad lesson in the history of the series and certainly, the look at the five unmade sequels should be of interest to phans everywhere. (I may get sniped once the issue hits stands for writing that piece). The issue is at the printers right now and when it'll hit newsstands is anyone's guess. When I know for sure, I'll let you guys know.

That cover looks awesome. Don't know whether that'll be available in the UK, but will definately look. (The other features look pretty interesting too!)

Way cool. Congrats Dustin. The cover is neat. I look forward to picking it up. Hopefully the guy from Gorezone doesn't rip you a new one. ;D

Well, he won't be able to rip me for, you know, the spelling or words or grammar. Or content - I have my facts straight. Most of 'em, anyways. And on top of that, I didn't rip anyone's images off of their website without asking.

That's really great Dustin, congratz.
I love that artwork, with all the cars from the films going to the drive-in.

Is this available at book stores? I.E. Barnes & Noble? Indeed. I picked up a copy at B&N yesterday, but it's just now getting switched old with the old issue. Borders also stocks the magazine.

Beautiful issue! Picked it up last night at Bookstar in Studio City (and got extra copies for Guy, Angus, Mom...).
Cover artwork is gorgeous (and repeats later in the issue with a crossword puzzle). Chock full of photos (memorabilia). And Dustin's article is very well written and full of great information! I think Dustin did Phantasm proud for its anniversary!

Oh goodness, you've got a copy for Angus? Eeeeee. Thank for the kind words, Kris. There are a few things in it that I dearly wish I could change, writing-wise, but I can live with this final version.

Seriously, though, I think he'll be pleased. Guy gets his issue on Saturday in person. I've been showing the magazine proudly to coworkers all this morning. ;D

Just so I didn't have to leave my little hovel, I ordered mine from the site. Hopefully HorrorHound can keep a little extra $ via internet sales. From the sound of their podcast , it sure sounds like they can use it. ;D

Got my issue yesterday. Quite a great job you did, Dustin. HorrorHound reminds me of everything that Fangoria used to be.

Dustin, I commend you on job well done. It was a well written article (good call on capitalizing Styrofoam).
I encourage everyone to pick it up.
Just like the spacegates, Don's optimism on a future Phantasm was quite resonating.

Thank you all for the kind words. I appreciate it. I do feel that HorrorHound and Rue Morgue capture much of the glory days coverage that Fangoria has forgotten all about. To Fangoria, it's all about what's new and unfortunately, we've simply got too much good OLD horror to only focus on the new.
Long live mags like HH and RM.
