There was an article in Vaiety which states the Furst bros. are planning a remake of An American Werewolf in London. Yet ANOTHER remake.
This comes on the back of the release of their new film with Ethan Hawke in Daybreakers - a film where the population of the world has been infected with a virus which turns everyone into vampires and one man is working on the cure. Sound familiar? I am Legend (book) /Omega Man/ (new) I am Legend.
I'm really disheartened again. After some great new horrors out there recently - like Let the right one in, Book of Blood (filmed in Edinburgh (woo-hoo), midnight meat train- here we go again with some re-hashes.
Would AWIL be a successful remake do you think?

^^What does AWIL stand for?
Anyhoo, on the subject of remakes, yeah there doesn't appear to be a shortage of them nowdays. Just the other day, I came across an article on a spoof website...something about Michael Bay remaking "The Great Gatsby", and I thought it was a joke due to the nature of the site, but I found a half truth in that it's listed on imdb, slated for a 2010 release. But no info is given on it unless you have a pro account.
While remakes these days appear to suck and there's no excuse for them, there's actually a few I like..."I Am Legend" being one of them.

I think the AWIL remake has the potential to be OK (IMO there were things that could be improved on with the original), but more than likely it will just end up like An American Werewolf in Paris; With more cliches and werewolf cult stuff and less "man trapped in horrifying situation"

You can now add Total Recall for 2012.

Funny this came up, just the other day i was telling my sidekick at work that the 1st Robocop is a classic, while 2-3, the tv series, the cartoon, the more than 1 (?) made for tv movies, and comic line all sucked MAJORLY!!! Because of the suckiness that curses this story and the fact that Peter Weller shined enough in the original, and the major fact that this is not a "Phamily" cast as Phantasm, i have no problem with this remake. Since it is mostly effects-driven, maybe it can only improve. They should have Weller as the police captain, and maybe have the guy that played Clarence Bodeger & Red from the 70's show (no idea what his name is) have a cameo. I like that guy, my Family tells me that i am a cross between Red, and R. Lee Ermie, he-he.

If that list is true, the one that hit me the hardest was Excalibur. That movie is one of my favorites. It is perfect the way it is. Then the Twilight Zone. I love both the series and the movie. It's just completely wrong to remake either of them. And The Great Gatsby, no...just no. I wish they would remake movies that NEED to be remade, and leave the great classics alone. On the other hand, I notice the reboot for Tomb Raider. I would be interested in that. I've been a fan of the video games since I was a kid. I simply loved the adventures and history involved in the games (my favorite level in both the original and Anniversary being Tomb of Qualopec). When the movies came out, I was disappointed, because the movies did not stay true to the games. And I hated Jolie in it. They could have at least gotten a real British woman to play Lara. The movie that I would honestly like to see remade is Super Mario Brothers. Anyone who knows me knows that I just love Super Mario...especially Yoshi Though the movie was kind of cheesy, and the actors hated making it, I actually liked it. However, that story was about Luigi and Daisy. I'd like to see Mario and Peach's story this time. Yeah, I'm a gamer. That's who I am.

I'm a huge fan of the Swedish trilogy "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." Absolutely loved those movies and books, and the Swedish actors playing the roles. Soooo want to go visit Stockholm as a result.
I've got such mixed feelings about the American remake--I really don't know WHY they needed to make an American version. At least, if it's bad, I can go watch the Swedish actor who played the journalist, Michael, star in "MI: Ghost Protocol." I think the original actress who played Lisbeth is in some other American film this winter as well.

I felt the same about let the right one in. Great foreign film, which was remade months after a release. Can people seriously be that lazy?
One film I'd like to see updated would be Logan's Run. Just finished reading the book for the first time and it was brilliant. It would have been hard to make it like that in the 70's, but it could easily be done now.
Oh...and I heard that Zack Effron was in line to be in Akira......NOOOOOOOOO.....

I keep hearing that hollywood is doing a Cowboy Bebop movie, with Keanu Reeves playing Spike Speagel. I actually kinda dig this as Spike and Keanu do favor and share the same blank expression...
