OK, If I search the internet I get ALL kinds of conflicting stories. I hear that Phantasm V is a go. I hear it's off. I hear all the major players are in. I hear that there's no money.
What's the current story? Will Phantasm V ever be made??
Please say yes.

There are no plans to make a Phantasm V.
Several drafts were written, there was a cast reading, and that's about it. Don't official statement on the subject is that financing is the issue.
Sorry man. We all know how you feel!

I just got done watching all 4 Phantasm movies and I'm pumped up for a fifth!!
Maybe we can hope for a low budget indie?

LOL... yeah, good one.
Wasn't Oblivion's budget like $650K? That's pretty unreal in today's world of multi-million dollar budgets.
Maybe they can make it like that dude who made the cheap zombie movie... borrow some cameras, get volunteers, etc. LOL.
If they'd ask for finanical backing from fans and put the contributors names on the credits, maybe that would work. (I know someone on the boards here asked if people would contribute $500 - $1000 to make the movie.)
I guess we can just keep hoping.

We could do a fundraiser of sorts and give that money to Don for V's budget. Anyway, isn't there a secret Phantasm project on the way?

I said it in the other thread, and I'll say it here. I would absolutely contribute to a fund to get Phantasm V made.

I said it in the other thread, and I'll say it here. I would absolutely contribute to a fund to get Phantasm V made. Bravo! I'm serious. That other thread suggested people donate to a Phantasm V fund (with a suggestion of $500) Well, that's a lot of cash, but if Don sets up a donation option on his page I'll put my money where my mouth is. Still, I doubt enough people would participate to make it worthwhile.

When it comes to donations, unless it's a cause such as church, human or animal charity and similar causes, most people like to get something back. Why do public TV stations "give" you a DVD or some other item if you donate? As an incentive.
If the people who are interested in making Phantasm V would organize something so that fans could donate and receive something back, it might work. A grass-roots effort started here wouldn't work. It's got to be orgainzed by those who are in a position to use the money.
As an incentive, they could offer "limited edition" Phantasm items based on the level of support. Up to $100, get an autographed T-shirt; Up to $250, get a cast signed exclusive item; Up to $500... you get the picture. (I think getting your name in the credits as a supporter would be cool!)
I doubt that if we sent Don a check for $XXX he'd be able to accept it or be able to use it for the project, if it's been shelved. (Unless, of course, we or someone gives him a HUGE amount!!)
I'd support the project if I knew that it was being handled by the people making P-V and yeah, if there was some sort of incentive. It makes the contributors part of an exclusive group, with proof that they helped make the film happen.
Just my thoughts.

Believe it or not, this fan-funded idea has been tossed around behind the scenes of Phantasm before. It was almost immediately thrown out, however, as being a completely unrealistic venture. It would take one thousand contributions of $1,000 to get a million dollar film made. The fans would have to enter into agreements as silent partners and blah, it gets complicated from there.
Not to mention, it would be completely embarrassing and degrading for Don Coscarelli to accept such a business model.
The reasons behind Phantasm V not being made are not as cut and dry as there not being money around. Studios a'plenty would love to give Phantasm a spin, but Don likes to work independently. Money, that's part of it... but Don could personally finance Phantasm V if he wanted to. He's done things like it before. Citing the budget as the sole reason for P5 not moving forward has kind of become the acceptable scapegoat for so many in interviews and at conventions.
In short, I wouldn't waste too much breath on the fan-funded route if I were you.

Not to mention some people are trying to make a living & make ends meet & cannot afford to donate money to get a movie made. I think getting by & surviving is more important than funding a movie but that's just me.

Citing the budget as the sole reason for P5 not moving forward has kind of become the acceptable scapegoat for so many in interviews and at conventions. Fair enough. So what are some of the other reasons if not funding? Just schedules and lack of interest? I know Don probably wants to work on some other projects and untread ground rather than making a fourth sequel to an already existing franchise. I can totally respect that. Last time he did, we got the excellent Bubba Ho-Tep. And honestly, even though I would still absolutely love to get a Phantasm V, I sometimes wonder what else they could do that hasn't been done in the series. And I also think Oblivion is a great ending (even though it leaves lots of questions.) So, in short... always up for more Phantasm but happy with what we got if it turns out to be all we got. And I really just want to see a new Coscarelli film, no matter what it is! John Dies at the End sounds like it would be awesome
