What exactly were the characters depicted in that piece of artwork? And furthermore what do you think is the significance or symbolism they represent?

IceCreamMan, I'm afraid I don't have anything to tell you here. Sorry.

I looked at that scene again and I don't have a clue about the symbolism or the identity of the faces. I'm assuming just typical masoleum decor. Now I'm curious why she would open a door that is unlabelled. Surely, she would already be familiar with the layout if she was going to visit a dead relative - she did walk in to Morningside carrying a bouquet of flowers.

I always notice that above the door but never gave it much thought. The rest of the mausoleum had Pillars and things in the halls I just figured it was a part of the decor.

I agree that it is just mausoleum decor. A note on the fortuneteller's grandaughter though: yes, it is stated that she went to visit someone, but I always felt she went up there because of what Mike had told her grandmother and to do a little investigation. Just a thought.

Just a thought. i think that was her intent to snoop around. as after Mike left their house and the fortune teller was laughing. she the girl had a frown on her face like she thinking about what mike said about Morningside.

Absolutely. This is why Don probably didn't use this scene from the book as to imply to us that this was her intention and that she found more than she bargained for...

Well I have been waiting to weigh in on this, just to see others ideas. I don't really know which of the greek god's they represent, and don't think that even matters. I think they are there to show this room has some other meaning.....something grander then the here and now. Something mythological(yet real), and something mere mortal people shouldn't begin to try to understand, or for that matter, even view. P.S. The Tall Man should've dead-bolted the darn door....LOL

Well, I think that door, is the door that leads to the (space) gates of hell. Lots of Greek gods, in occult influenced writings, represent lucifer, [like Thor, and Appollo the sun god (king)]. Maybe thats a couple of those greeky dudes above the door. This is just a theory. But a plausible one.

That's pretty much how I've always viewed it. It could be more but who knows? I just thought it was for decoration & to look rad.

Those faces were above the door that led to the dimensional doorway. I always assumed it represented how the Tall Man’s people thought of themselves as compared to us – as Gods. The whole “You don’t go to heaven – you come to us!” thing.

This was a great question as I never really wondered about it much before. Looking around a bit on the internet I found this link to a blog which actually was pretty informative if anyone is interested in having a look. mnemosynosis.livejournal.com/4211.htmlwhen reading this i related the whole "stick is bent" thing to when Mike put his hand in the box...."and of course it's all in your mind"

What I got from the article was that Phantasm might be a quest for true knowledge? Thus that door could be the true Phantasm of our world, that hell on earth does exist. Ouch! There's smoke coming out of my ears. My brain hurts. I'm gonna go watch some t.v. and dumb myself down.

I'll take a cap of that scene and show it to one of my friend's whose good at Greek Mythology (and research) and see which characters are there. I'm pretty sure that one of them is Hades (since he is the god of the underworld) but I'll double check.

That "You don't go to Heaven you come to Us" explanation is my favorite good job!
