although it's spoken of Jody dieing in later Phantasm's we never actually see it. How did he really die....and if it was a car wreck....why did the tall man need him so much that he put him in a sphere, instead of shrinking him to a dwarf?

Since Mike couldn't accept the "abandonment" of his family which is symbolized by their death, he uses Jody to keep that feeling of abandonment in the forefront.

Well Jody did say he died in the car wreck in P4 as he was dying.
I figure the Tall Man knew he could lure Mike in easier with the help of his brother.

Jody's soul moved on maybe, as seen in the beginning of P3 (He seemed the most in character there), though I'd think if that were real, Liz would be there. However, if it were a Tall-Man thingy, I would think the Tall Man would seem more welcoming.

I agree that it would be the same case for Liz. We know she is in a ball, so why wouldn't she come back to Mike, just like Jody.
The Tall Man def was using Jody to affect Mike in my opinion. There is also the scene in 3 or 4 where they show the Tall Man ram Jody in the Cuda (made by clips from 1 and 2) so he probably did die in the car wreck and then was altered by Tally.

But Mike said not to trust Jody in Phantasm IV....as if the Jody in that sequel was bad...it may not have even been Jody...just a minion of the Tall Man....so what that Jody said very well could of been wrong.

Maybe the Tall Man picks and chooses who he wants to come back in ball form?
If he didn't want Liz to be able to do what Jody does maybe he made her just a normal sphere or something?

Maybe Tally just wanted to outright annihilate Liz, like she was an imperfection in Mike's training or some such. He obviously needed Mike alive for sphere extraction, and he ordered unlucky twin 1 just to incinerate Liz.
