I can't tell you the last time I posted anything on the boards. I'm sorry if my absence has offended you.
I know I posted about the last two times I journeyed down to Cherry Hill, NJ for the Monster Mania Convention, so it only seems right to tell you all about this years!!
Well, first of all- my one friend got me a ticket, but she had to drive down separately, so- I got my ticket from her the previous night (Good thing too, but I'll get to that later).
So I wake up at the ass-crack of dawn on Saturday morning, like, 7ish?? That's way too early to wake up on the weekend. My other friend arrives at my house, and we leave to go to Cherry Hill. It was about 9.
We stopped at the Quick Chek, and I got a bangin' 6 in Italian Sub (Quick Chek's subs got waaaayy better over the years, but they'll never beat WaWa)
I took the long way there to avoid the notorious NJ Turn Pike. And I ended up getting there around 11:15, about an hour late, but that's alright. I had to park like half a mile down the road. It was seriously packed as hell, it had the biggest turnout in years apparently too.
When I got there, I took it all in, but was seriously drained and didn't know where I was mentally.
But, I made my way to the tables, did laps- and eventually found some VHS tapes!! I came home with- From Beyond the Grave, The Haunting of Morella, Night of the Ghouls, Orgy of the Dead, and Suburbia.
Picked up the Fright Rags shirt of Leslie Nielsen from Creep Show, it seriously rules and I'm glad I bought it.
My friend spent over a hundred dollars on bootleg DVD's, I couldn't talk him out of it, there's something ultra sketchy with bootlegs- I don't trust them.
After the VHS tapes, my friend and I ended up at the Troma booth. He bought more movies, I took his picture with Lloyd Kaufman, after that I shook Lloyd's hand saying how I was a fan, then he was like "you want your picture too??" I was like, "yeah! sweet!!" so, I got my pic with the Troma crew, it was pretty sweet!!
Oh yeah- I brought my backpack with me to avoid carrying around stuff all day. I was planning on getting my Phantasm LaserDisc, Hellraiser 2 LaserDisc and Return of the Living Dead 3 LaserDisc signed by the lead roles that were at the convention.
Well, things didn't go as planned.
Michael Baldwin was a last minute add-on (which totally rules because he wasn't at the Phantasm reunion 2 years ago). Of course I went to him first. He was so cool of course, I told him how much I love his movies and how much they mean to me. I wanted to ask him stuff about the movies, but nerves kicked in and I was just completely tired as hell. Anyway, he was like "LaserDisc heh?? I haven't seen one of these in years" then he chuckled, then I laughed. I was like "yeah, they rule!!" I can't remember how it all went, but I told him I found my player on Amazon for like 80 bucks, then I think he mentioned that he had a player too, not too sure though. But, he was nice- asked me how I wanted him to sign it, and I told him "To Steve please"- some people don't like to get their stuff personalized, but I love it, it shows who's Phantasm LaserDisc it is!! MWUHAHA!!
I wanted a picture with him, but he was like trapped inside the tables- but I asked him anyway, and he said yeah!! So, I was thrilled, at the same time I was trying to keep it cool, but, instead I totally ruined my photo haha. I'll learn how to smile one of these years.
After that, the day was a blur, because I just met Michael Baldwin!! BOOOOYYYY!!!
I really wanted to get my Return of the Living Dead 3 signed by Melinda Clarke. I was really set on her signing it- I was like 10 feet from her table, saw that she was charging 25 bucks for a signature, and I automatically got insulted and completely turned off. It's like, wtf- why are you charging more than everyone else?! I was so disappointed and bummed out- then I remember I met Michael Baldwin and everything was ok.
Went outside for a breather- then came inside to get my Hellraiser 2 LD signed by Doug Bradley- his line was long, so I said ehhh, and walked away.
At some point I went to the Children of the Corn Q & A, it was awesome- it was the dudes who played Isaac and Malachie. They were totally cool and down to Earth. They talked about the movie and whatever else they were in. The Q & A seemed short as hell.
There were other Q & A's I wanted to hit up, but I seriously didn't want to wait around for them- my friend wanted to leave which was a bummer. I was like, I'm beat as hell and I have accomplished a lot already, I'll just go- whatever.
There were a lot of people there I wanted to meet though, like the girl from "Night of the Comet". There was a "Night of the Demons" reunion too, but, the main women in the movie were MIA. The original Michael Meyers was there- Halloween is one of my favorite movies, but I had nothing cool for him to sign, so I didn't get to meet him either. Kane Hodder was there as well, but again, nothing to sign!!
I ended up leaving at 4, and my friend who got me the ticket didn't show up til I was leaving, what's that about?!
I give this years a 6 out of 10- only because I missed out on some crucial Q & A's and not meeting people I wanted to meet.
I promise to post more on here!!
