Does anyone think that we will ever see any sort of new Phantasm? After reading Dustin's depressing/latest news, I am getting the feeling that the Phantasm series has been laid to rest. Personally, I guess I am OK with that. What I mean is, after reading the 2013 A.D. script and having anticipated a new release for so long, I just do not think that anything could meet (or exceed) my expectations. As a whole, I am happy with the 4 pack. Since the likelihood of seeing another Phantasm is slim to none, maybe Don could finally work on that epic cut of Phantasm (after JDatE is completed of course). Wishful thinking on my part I know. Heck, it doesn't even have to be cut into sequence. I'd just be happy to see the complete footage. Having this would satiate any and all of my Phantasm needs (Jim the World's Greatest making it onto DVD wouldn't hurt things either).

I thought the same thing, man. Since Angus thinks it should stop at 4 & Don seems so busy elsewhere, it just doesn't look good. I have eternal hope, but the flame is burning low! But then again, in the word of the immortal Tall Man...It's never over!!

I very much want a Phantasm 5. Not because I think the series needs another entry, but because Don has been saying for years that there WILL be at least one more. So that idea has now been stuck in my head for the last ten years or so and I can't shake it. If the future of Phantasm looks bleak, Don should at least come out and say it so we can all move on.

I am torn when it comes to this question. Of course I want more Phantasm, but I wonder do we really need it? I've asked myself this many times while crafting my own fanfic. Where else can the story really go? If they start answering questions, the series loses it's mystique. Look at LOST. And where else can they really take the Mike character? I feel like his arc came to a satisfying resolution in P4. And Jody's journey is surely over. You can only die and come back so many times before it gets old. If they can keep cheating death, then what is really at stake? So that just leaves Reggie. His storyline in Oblivion was the most disappointing part of that movie for me. He deserved so much better than the been-there-done-that zombie cop and boobsphere shtick he was given. I was expecting something more like the Roger Avary script. Let the man go out with a bang. I do think he could carry one of these movies by himself, but again is it neccessary? Phantasm has always been Mike's story - it's all in his head - which is what makes the end of P4 so poignant. I really love how it all comes full circle and I don't see how they can top it. But, part of me will always wish this series could have had that kind of epic, action-packed finale. If a new philm were announced, I certainly wouldn't complain, but I would have my concerns.

(post edited to sound optimistic)
Yes! P5 is right around the corner! Everyone get ready!
: )
My sentiments exactly. Thank you, vivalabeck. Phantasm IS Mike's story. And agreed, Reggie was basically a non-character in P4. Might as well have been a prop. It's a shame he wasn't given something new to do because Reggie Bannister does having acting chops to flex.

Haha - I appreciate your optimism, but that's going to get you in trouble when some folks don't realize you're being facetious!

I am still vehement in my opinion that OblIVion is not a satisfying end-point for the series, but if Angus himself really doesn't want another one, then I can accept part IV (or preferably part III should they find the original ending) to be the last one. Angus Scrimm/the tall man is the true icon of the series, and deserves the respect of not being pressured into another part of it.
